future life for a poor little bronzit..

so i have had my 89 325i sedan for over a year now...paid 1k for it and beat the everliving piss out of it since with little to no money put into it... to say it owes me nothing is an understatement .... but in hoping to replace it in the near future with another bimmer had me thinking what about the bronzit..

to give you an idea of its condition it has a salvage title , seems it bumped something in the front then got hit in the rear (which was fixed horribly) it has major rust around the front of the sunroof among other issues..

so here is a basic rundown of what id like to do with it eventually , all comments positive or negative will be welcomed .. eventually it will be a "rolling billboard" for my site and side business that i am working on ..

    BODY

cutting the roof off making it a convertible truck of sorts from the front seats back it will have a "pickup" bed , back doors welded shut and smoothed over..along with having a cloth type manual roof for the front seats..it will be easily removable for when there is no chance of rain etc

other wise the body will stay stock (tho they idea of doing some sort of flare or widebody has crossed my mind since i gotta re work the left rear quarter)

    DRIVETRAIN

will def get a manual swap along with a m30 swap...ideally id love to have a slightly built 3.5 to drop in with a turbo..nothing super crazy just enough to make it a little meaner

    SUSPENSION

probably a decent coil over set up as i think it will pull duty at autocross events and drift events (obviously being a vert this may cause issues so a roll bar is def gonna be thought about and added in)

other wise i am open to other ideas to expand on the above etc..i know i will be doing alot of reinforcement welding to keep the body solid

in the end its just a way to keep my e30 alive for awhile longer while having a fun toy..

i am also gonna grab some better profile pics of it and see what kind of magic the photoshop guys can work to get an idea of how it will look

There really aren't that many pickups. I say do a pickup, not a pickup convertible. Stiffen it up further with a roll bar of some sort and some under body braces.

Then drop in the m30. A guy just showed a dyno of a 3.5. It had a 2.25in exhaust, a 3.25in intake and a no name chip. Put down 205ish. With a nice intake, exhaust and chip you would be even better off!

i like the panel van idea but....not sure how i would go about building it so it doesnt look like an abomination

the only reason i wanna do a vert pick up is the rust on the roof is quite large

but i was looking at the rear window pillar and the way its shaped and looks may work if i basically cut the sunroof and area around it out then "slide" the rest forward..shape the top to the windshield line ..so it would give it almost an "elcamino" type look instead of a flat cut off like a pick up

^ im going to vote no on the el camino style idea. i've seen a couple 2002s done that way and it looks wrong. I like the vert pickup idea, i think that could look really good. What about the vert pickup idea with small wood slat "roof' that could double as a rack( just over the cab) or even a long wood slat roof all the way to the back (like a touring roof size)?

i think it could look good but wont know till i grab some pics and get photoshops done...

i kinda like the wood slat rack idea...maybe like have it so it attaches at the roll bar hoop at the drivers seats and have a big hoop at the rear (removable) that it also attaches to ...hmmm so many useable ideas and ways i can do it ...
