first i started by sanding down any dents/ knicks, then fill them or what ever is nessicary to get rid of low spots. i had a huge dent in the quarter pannel on the passenger side fender lip wich i pulled out with a stud gun and then smoothed out with bondo. then i just sanded the whole car down with 320, then wet sand 400 and then wet sand 600.
after that i primered it with normal spray can primer, check for any low spots or anything else i missed. then wet sand again with 600 untill your satisfied, then clean everything really good and i used an average sized air compresor and a spray gun my dad had (more then likely a $50 gun from harbor freight) and the paint is satin black tractor enamle from thiesiens, i did not use a clear coat. i figure theyre shouldn't be a need for it since the paint is pretty tough and i had used it on another hood last year which still looks as good as the day i painted it.
overall i started on a friday night and had it put back together the following wednesday. that's with one primer layer and two good paint layers. keep in mind to paint a car right you need to remove bumpers, trim, mirrors, lights, and i recommend the pop out windows.
i did skrew up on a few spots, but for a seventeen year old kid in his garage i think it turned out pretty good.Comment
