Props on the subtlety. I hate when ppl go over the top with HDR.

I personally use photoshop to make HDR images, but there is a great program called Photomatix that makes HDR imagery super easy. You can use any quality digital camera, a tripod is definitely required. You need to take multiple shots of the same scene at different aperatures, shutter speed, etc.______________________________________

You should keep your aperture fixed so each shot has the same parts in focus and out of focus. Just change the exposure.

Not much HDR going on in this thread. Lots of tone mapping though :)
As a general rule of thumb the best HDR photos don't have the "HDR Look".
