Going full 80s on my temp wheels

I was originally going to sell/trade my ARE 398s but I had a change of heart and decided to get them refinished soon because they deserve it. I'm thinking full polished all the way with gold bolts. Possibly gold centers as well, haven't decided. I also want to widen them so if anyone has any idea about what type of lips will work on these, fill me in. Looking to go 9s all around, maybe 10s in the rear. I want ridiculousness from these when I'm done.

    398s for reference

Enough with that though, I decided to 80s the hell outta my car with my recently acquired bcaps.

So I present to you, plastimotherf**cking dipped white bcaps.

    My tools of destruction

These things were dirty as all hell can be. Nothing a little simple green and brakecleen can't fix.

    First coat...

    Final coat and all done.

Fast forward to today, got the tires mounted, they needed a little extra touch up like I figured they would. Touch up though is retardedly easy and since I wasn't going for perfection, I didn't care if they were a little rough around the edges.

All done for the second time around.

Forgot to get a good before picture, and remembered once the ass was already in the air. Bye Bye AREs, I will revisit you soon.

And done...I was almost full height on my coils prior to this because my sidewall was too tall on the AREs and would rub with rolled fenders. I decided to slam it on its nuts, because why not. Keep in mind, I still have halfway to go in the rear, and six threads left on the fronts still. No skidplate yet...:fingers crossed:

Spaced out 15mm already...not quite enough for hellaflush...but I'll deal.

    iScrape...

That is all, P.S. don't mind the hood, it is proper fucked and needs to be addressed soon. Result of a shitty peeling clearcoat gone wrong, mixed with a vinyl job(Bfest e30 fire chief car) that ripped any remaining clear off in patches.

AC Schnitzer. I should also have the matching rear valence to finish it off and complete the look soon. Also need to address the slight sagging on the front. Although no one really notices it but me haha.

I've always had a hardon for the DTM e30s and they almost always had some type of white "race" wheel, OZ, BBS, etc...so I figured for 20 bucks and a free set of caps, why the fuck not. I love the look though.

Looks sweet, I like it. I am interested to know how the white Plastidip holds up, keep me/us updated.

            Sucks about the hood. :(

I absolutely love the front end of your car (and the rest of it lol).

                The rims look great too.

Thanks, I'm actually fairly interested as well. My kidneys have been plastidip painted for about two years now, and they have held up well to pretty much everything. I can wash and scrub lightly with no peeling at all. The hood unfortunately has been shit for about a year and was actually part of the reason I vinyl'd the car for Bfest...and it looked cool as hell haha. I'm tempted to just chalkboard it for the socal show in sept. I know it's not original or new, but it'd be some good fun for a weekend. Then it's time to get it painted for real.

Thanks, it is by far my most favorite part of the car. Just need that rear now to tie it all together.

The lip is welded on the ARE's. They are only a 2 piece wheel not a 3.

Huh, I did not know that but upon further research it appears you are correct. Looks like a good refinish is still in order since the centers are still removable. Curious to know if I could separate the barrel and lips though. I'd love to widen if possible, but it may not be worth the effort. Wheel plans may have changed again.

I'm thinking its possible. Dont know how deep the weld is. Some machining will need to be done. I cant remember why they welded the lip to the barrel on these... Cause they was a 3 piece wheel to begin with.

Thankfully I have some hookups in the wheel refinishing biz, so it's definitely an option I'm going to pursue first. I'd like to hold onto these simply because they are period correct...and not RS's haha. I like the rarity factor. Also need to have some flat caps machined up for them.
