    Time and money pays off!!!!11

As many of you know I bought myself a glossy black E30 back around the first of the year. Funny thing about this car is I owned it from 9/04 through 9/06. During that time I did anything and everything to it, including a turbo 2.7 stroker. Ever since I sold the car I had regretted my decision. A friend of mine spotted it for sale in December of last year and let me know. After selling one ball, one kidney, and whoring myself out as much as possible I made a deal with the seller and bought the car back!

The fairy tale didn't go as smoothly as it should have. The seller (a shop owner and mechanic) told me that the car would need a headgasket. This is something I was OK with and I went ahead and had it shipped home from PA. Long story short, it had a cracked cylinder head and had been mixing coolant in the engine oil for quite some time. The Schrick cam was destroyed, the crankshaft was destroyed, the bearings were destroyed. Mind you this was a 10,000 mile motor.

At that point I decided to bite the bullet. Fuck it, let's build it again and do it right. I sourced a new (used) cylinder head with a good cam and sent the cam to be ground to turbo spec. I sourced a very clean replacement Eta crankshaft from a buddy who had an Eta parts engine. Of course I bought all new rings, bearings, gaskets, etc. The engine got a full rebuild including having the block honed and decked and the cylinder head rebuilt. I went with a +size OEM BMW head gasket and all ARP hardware. I will include a full mod list below.

The next step was engine management. My days of swearing that my band-aid Motronic setup was fine were over. I talked to Derek at Dederic Motorsport (DMS) and got the ball rolling. Derek built me a plug and play Megasquirt box and a plug and play Innovate LC-1 wideband o2 sensor. For anyone wondering, this guy knows what the fuck he is doing and I would recommend him and his work to ANYONE. Today (Friday) I met Derek at a local dyno shop and he went to work. Thanks to Derek I have a GREAT running and reliable turbo M20. He claims it should get decent MPGs too, but I'd have to drive normally for that I think, lol!

Below are some pics from the dyno session along with a dyno sheet, a fun dyno video and complete mod list for the car. None of this could have been possible without the help and hard work of my very good friend Shant. He goes by Myster-e on this forum. A huge thanks to him and again to Derek! Now phase two of buying this car back will be getting it cleaned up! Enjoy...

Thanks T! It's tip-top mechanically, now I'll do my best to clean her up cosmetically. It doesn't look quite as good as when I left it in 2006 but I'll work with it the best I can. Down the road paint will happen.

The engine build itself from bottom end to cylinder head is all credited to my buddy Shant. (Myster-e)

Quick question, do these dyno's read on the lower side or on the higher side? I could never figure out which of the styles read more optimistically..
