Car is coming along nicely George, I cant wait to see it with the BBS's and suspension. I would steer clear of the J-stock's unless it's going to see alot of track time, it's pretty harsh on the street.

It's comical to hear you guys talk about "power" and "control" when, unless I'm mistaken, some of you have R3V'd your car at least once....

      Hey Jojie,

Nice car man. I am sure that this car will impress everyone in a few weeks or so. These pics just show mods of a project in progress. I have seen how much stuff you still have to install. Man, put them on already so you dont get so much bad comments on here. Everyone seems to think this is it and that you are done. And dont forget to put the BBS RS's on so you get all the ooohhs and aaahhs everyone seems to make when they see RS's, and 16's to boot.

thumper (sorry dude i forgot your name): if you still have my number you can give me a call on weekends. i'm thinking of going to bavarian fest in CT ut it all depends on my school schedule.

thanks bob. i'm taking my time on the car. i want to get the right suspension for my application. GC's won't do me any good as i don't tune my suspension often. i only want to buy once and hope not to change it again. winter is coming so the car won't be used at all. hopefully by next spring the BBS RS will be refinished (i'm keeping the gold centers). BTW, when you get a chance can you shoot me pics of your engine bay? thanks.

Nino: thanks for the kind word. we need to get together again. you and your bro have the cleanest e30 i've seen so far. iyes i still have a few goodies i need to install. i'm just too busy with work and school right now.

who cares if you don't want to tune it often, you can run spring rates inbetween H&R race and jstock. like 450/625. instead of 300/500 or 600/1000.

and you can adjust ride height once and leave it there. and if you want to change the balance of the car, just swap a pair of springs instead of the whole set.

I miss that car but anywho when I did own it I was planning on J-stock suspension setup but obviously ran out of $ and time (in college). The reason I had the swap done first (feels like so long ago now) was because I was coming from a Camaro Z28 and the M42 had to be the first thing to go since the E30 handled better out of box then my Camaro obviously did.

I know this argument is over, but I want to see if anyone agrees with this idea.

Take it from this point of view. The e30 handles great and stops awesome completely stock, if everything is in correct working order. We know this because we drive them and we probably wouldn't if this weren't true. Also, BMW would not make a car that wasn't up-to-par stock. So lets say you drop an M42 or M20 and replace it with an S50. Alright, you just gained ~100lbs or so, and you have almost 100 more HP. Who makes the rule if you have more power, you have to upgrade suspension/brakes. If my memory serves me correctly, I can do the same speed on an interstate as an S50e30 (posted speed limit). The only difference is that the S50e30 can get there faster. The extra power can be stopped just as if it weren't there. Its all about how the car is driven.

Now lets say you take your S50 e30 out on a spirited drive. This swap wouldn't necessarily kill your handling because its only 100lbs. Shit, lets say you didn't do the swap and put your middle school brother in the car with you. There's your ~100lbs sitting right next to you. Granted all the weight isnt directly in the front of the car as the engine is. If you have passengers does that mean you should upgrade your suspension? I'm sure they would kill your handling on a stock e30. I mean, since these cars handle like shit stock (sarcasm for those who have a hard time with it).

I think what you have is great. I'm DEFINATELY not against putting aftermarket suspension on my car, but its not 100% necessary. Anyone see this point of view.

Like I said, I'm not hating on aftermarket suspension and brakes...but I'm sure the stock parts can handle the slightly greater weight.
