my pops bought a 190E 2.3-16 brand new in 1986 and not so wisely gave it to me as my first car in 1998.. I ended up going sideways into a neighbor's backyard and buckling the left rear wheel under the car - had to fix it (and find parts) as punishment..
I've driven both that and an E30 M3.. power feels about the same, with the Benz having a slight edge in a straight line because of the gearing, but the M3 felt lighter in the corners.. love them both though and to this day can't decide between either one..

I forgot to mention.. between the 2 cars in stock form, I gotta say the Benz sounds better (especially with that straight-cut first gear).. and the motor just sounded meatier..
just watch some old DTM vids and take a listen, for some reason the Benz's just sound sweeter ;-)
