To go further, some cars were produced with the kit from the factory. Unfortunately, in the US, we only got the convertibles. They came in two forms...M technic package (suspension, interior trim, 15x7 euroweaves, bodykit, etc) only in Brilliant red/sterling silver/macao blue and M technic appearance package (bodykit, color matched wheels) only available in white/black.

M technic 1 and 2 were OEM upgrades for your 318/325. The most obvious being the body kit. Since the US didn't get euro bumpers and the m tech 1 is designed for the euro setup...we never got that here in the US. M tech 2 on the other hand fit over the facelift models, which we did get.

So when people refer to "M tech" most of the time they are referring to the M tech 2 package here in the US but when dealing with someone overseas there's a distinction between M tech 1 and M tech 2.
