Do it. 2000 shipped. I chose bottom cable opposed to Top because I didn't have the clearance in my barn. And the install wasn't Terrible the only thing that sucked was Drilling into concrete with a hammer drill.
All in due time!! What was the deciding factor on this particular lift? Why not a Rotary or a BendPak? Just curious cause I will definitely be shopping for one in the coming months.

It was the most cost effective. and the one i got was super overkill for an e30

Sorry to hear about your troubles, glad your getting back at it.

Hate to rain on your parade but as a licensed carpenter for over 20 years,a former building inspector and a certified designer you have a major problem now with your garage. Those ceiling joist you've cut off were preventing the building from spreading due to roof loads, the roof was built using only a ridge board(at the peak)and therefore cannot safely support itself without wall ties(the job of the ceiling joists). With snow loads and even just the weight of the construction material themselves the roof is being forced down, without wall ties or a ridge beam designed to span the entire lenght of the building the walls simply bow out and the roof sags.
With the sound of your luck I'd hate to hear your shop fell on you and completed the cycle of bad luck in 3's.

I'm by no means a carpenter. But when I moved into my house that barn didn't have joists going across. They were added to support the attic used for my moms companies equipment by her carpenter. I assumed since they weren't there at first it wasn't a huge deal. What would be the safest way to reinforce the ceiling while still being able to up with the lift?

I doubt it would actually fall down as the roof pitch is fairly steep, the building isn't very wide and I don't think from the pic its very long.If it didn't have wall ties before than thats an even better indication of being fairly well built.Still if you check the walls for plumb at the corners and again in the centers that will tell you if they have started to spread,I'd be quite surprised if they aren't.
To reinforce it without to much effort/cost you could use steel cable with steel plates.A hole would need to be drilled thru the top wall plates for the cable to pass thru and the the steel plates on the exterior to spread the loads. Our building codes up here require the wall ties(by whatever means used)be spaced no further than 4 feet apart, obviously that won't work well for the lift section.
Even a couple of ties of some type(simply use 2x8 lumber, needs to be really well anchored though) before/after the area needed for the lift would make me feel better.

Thanks for the advice i really appreciate it. I left a few joists in the front that you cant see in the picture and one big one in the back thats kind of built into the wall. I just want to put a car up on the lift and see how much room im working with. I dont have the electric hooked up or hydro fluid yet. but i will definitely take your advice and reinforce that ceiling. I would rather be safe then sorry!

No problem,I'm just jealous as I don't have a lift yet-I built my new garage with cathedral ceiling trusses as a test run but also did in floor heat so now I can't really add a lift without the chance of poking a hole in the floor heat tubing.
I don't plan on being here all that much longer though, the new place will have at least a new 3 bay shop,in floor heat for sure(its the only way to heat a shop imo),cathedral ceiling and a hoist in one bay.I do alot of custom fab for my race car stuff plus need a nice dry/heated place to store my E30 and the wifes miata-nearly need a 5 bay but no $$$ for that.

Have fun and make sure the car is solidly on the lift before you go under it,you seem to have some bad luck buddy.;)
