Highly suggest.
And the best part about rallycross is that you don't need a built car, or lots of power, or much suspension work. Just get a cheap beater and drive the hell out of it! One of the fastest non-Subarus at our first event was some little econo-Hyundai.....Stage rally/rallycross e30 build/competition journal

In RWD we mostly run against 2nd gen RX-7s and other random older RWD cars like Peugeot 505s and the occasional Mustang.
But it depends on if you're doing it for fun or competition.
No real need for AWD in rallycross though. It's not like we're mudding. The RWD cars are actually probably more exiciting to drive on course anyhow.Stage rally/rallycross e30 build/competition journal

I daily drive a tune WRX, and at our test and tune I drove the modified-class champion's Subaru GC 2.5RS. It was way, way less fun than the e30. I also drove the silver 318is in the pic above, and even though it's beat to hell it's still a blast.
Rallycross in an AWD car or a more modern car wouldn't be nearly as fun, IMO. E30s with a mild setup can do very well in RWD classes. I took 2nd in class at the event above (just behind the defending champion in a 2nd gen RX-7 with 50 more horses). And that is with a freakin M10!Stage rally/rallycross e30 build/competition journal

Lol. I want to go in an e30. Just not my stupidly street biased e30...

ah must be so nice to have actual dirt!
here we either have rock-hard-like-pavement clay, slick-as-ice wet clay, or super-loose-and-dusty clay that leaves clouds behind every car that hang for minutes!Stage rally/rallycross e30 build/competition journal
