If you' had an ix, you'd be classed in with all the Subarus and would probably not be very competitive, at least in this region. You'd be running against 300hp STi's and Evos, lol. Same problem the few local Audi guys have - they simply can't hang with the Subies and Evos on course.
In RWD we mostly run against 2nd gen RX-7s and other random older RWD cars like Peugeot 505s and the occasional Mustang.
But it depends on if you're doing it for fun or competition.
No real need for AWD in rallycross though. It's not like we're mudding. The RWD cars are actually probably more exiciting to drive on course anyhow.
Looks like it'll be a blast to participate in one of these.
I've autocrossed in various cars (including my 300hp WRX) for about 15 years, and honestly it might be hard autocrossing again. Rallycross in a 100hp M10 318 is about 100x as much fun as autocrossing in any car that I've ever done it in.....
Highly suggest.
And the best part about rallycross is that you don't need a built car, or lots of power, or much suspension work. Just get a cheap beater and drive the hell out of it! One of the fastest non-Subarus at our first event was some little econo-Hyundai.....
region: San Fran (but I rallycross all over the state and Nevada)
class: mr or m2
car: '87 325is
rx mods: michelin za81's gravel tires (15"), heavy duty skid plate (from radiator to transmission tail shaft), eibach adjustable sway bars, stainless braided brake lines, abs deleted, ac deleted, gutted interior, removable light bar with 3 hella 700's on it, gutted stock muffler, bilsteins hd's all the way around, dual electric pusher fans, poly bushings everywhere, solid motor mounts, m20 with cam, injectors, dinan chip, custom airbox (where the abs unit was),
No, they work fine. They even use the stock dash switch. But I rarely have this car out at night, and don't really want to blind oncoming traffic since they're not aimed for street use at the moment :) So maybe they'll get some use at some point.
Ohhhh, I thought I'd remembered you hooking them up.
