I don't own a Volvo  ....:p
I have see that link before, that M3 had many rust spots, small ones compared to my car I would say, but certainly more rust spots.
This is the car that is in my sig, for those whoe evr wondered pictures about it. The car is looking very nice nowdays, just finshing all the small things.
Now I realized how many parts can have a car thanks to this project, not because dissambling the entire car but because buying all the missing parts! Ouch
More photos to come ;)Euro M3'87 NogaroSilver/Euro E34 M5 '93/Porsche 993 TT 97' Euro/Porsche 993 Carrera 95' Euro/Skyline R33 GT-R

Then I started to go in the body repair stuff.
We started in the right side floor. Fabbed from some metal sheet the "form" it had when left the factory the car and all the details. That took some time to get it done though.
The old cheesy rusted piece that came off.
Checking for porpper alignment of the body. I needed a small traction job, I would say the normal traction most cars need after some years rolling over these roads. The car seemed to not have a crash accident before though which was good after all this mess found.
Here sitting next to another euro 87 Lachsilver M3, the car that became mine after 3 years (see my sig) :p Which I'm overhauling it as well and will post up a thread about it later.
After fixing/replacing all the metal work, then moved it to the preparation zone for paint. At this point I wasn't sure if repaint the M3 in it's original, beutifull DiamondSchwarz color or change it to another, "grey" color that always wanted in a e30 and never had the chance to own such combo.
It didn't take much time to decide the new color since I already resprayed a entire 90' US M3 I had (sold it last year) which was the same color, DS, so I aske dmy self why I would paint another M3 in the same color, life is to short to stick with the same everytime. Then NogaroSIlver was the color I wanted, rare and jsut different (darkier) than the few Lachsilver M3's we have here, jsut to be mor eunique lets say.
More to come :D

Here is part of the engine rebuild process. Mind you, I didn't take photos of every single piece changed, otherwise I would need few keyboards to list them all.
All timing parts were new, chain rails, guides, tensioner, chain, etc etc.
Here is the old head, found in a poor state of health. I was practicing about the polish (Not port) for the exhaust only.
Poorly machined "new" valve seats. The head was way out of specs. It was totally skimmed (hieght was totally off) and needed replace.
Pretty much a new sourced head. It was used but never machined, so it has the oem std height and was within factory specs.
We can see here the odd old valves found in the junked head. I was testing in the new head just for fun. Eventually replaced them with valves.
The OEM pistons were found "re welded" it means the skirts were filled up with aluminum and mahcined to "accep" the gap between the cylinder bore and the pistons. Total crap....so only chance was to buy a new set of forged pistons in 95mm bore size, CP was chosen and 11:1 CR option.
The crank was machined and new bearings of corse. Took the whole assambly part to get it balanced.
New pressure palte/disc/slave cylinder were added.
Checked for the axial play and were within specs ;)
Then I found new OEM BMW ITB's gasket set in a old inventory sale in a local shop. I was lucky to get these parts new because these are NLA in the properly size, only EVO III which are larger "tract" and I think is not the optimal when using smaller ports due it could interference with the air turbulence, maybe yes, maybe not.
The ITB's were totally dissambled and blasted, later was painted in silver. All the shafts/coils spring/etc were chromed (not shown in this picture but in other will display later).
And grabbed this set of shims for about US$ 100 or so

DIEGO! It is looking absolutely amazing so far, looks like great work. Kind of crazy saying this. But I might be going to Peru soon for some humanitarian work. I am thinking of chilling in Lima aftterwards to party it up and hang out to get to know the poeple and the country a little more before going back to the Estados Unidos. Mind if I coordinate with you, check your cars out and buy you a beer if I head down?Comment

Guys, thanks for the kind words! Sure feels good to hear positive comments.
graphikg, sure, PM and we can discuss your trip down here;)
federal, you are lucky, I just painted the bumpers, doors, etc of my other M3 (the one that was pictured few posts back) and those are laying arround the shop. I will try to check the weight of both for you.
Now I had more time to upload more pictures. I feel like I had to take more photos of every single brand new component that I bought, that way all you could see the magnitude of all the missing/broken parts the car needed but then I would have gone crazy uploading all the single parts in photos, so it's pretty much a summary the next photos. The money account is well busted though, but it worth the effort.
Engine assambled but not cosmetically finished just yet...
Alternator and started were dissmabled, replaced all the parts, rectificated collector, etc and were painted/ yellow-silver zinc coated.
That's all for now.

A small update regarding the load of photos:
Dumping few random stuff at this post though...
S14 OEM tensioner was taken in place of the S50 "upgrade" tensioner because when fitted the S50 tensioner the chain was too tight for my taste and I opted for the OEM specification piece to avoid premature wear or just shorter life than using the S50 tensioner.
Random new parts...no need introduction
The speedometer was kaput! The worn gears were broken/mising so I had to buy the repair kit made for VDO and works perfect now.
Dissmabled, cleaned, zinc coated and of course insatlled new "ZF" seals in this rack
Then we proceeded to spray the underbody with Wurthanti gravel stuff. Once dried, we applied a clear coat, this is because I flt it was gonna be more clean when the car hit the roads and the dirt won't stuck that bad in the "texture" of the anti gravel and keep the underbody a bit cleaner. This is why it shines a bit.
Lovely custom cardboard spring perch
