I swear. It's because of all you people.
There I was, just minding my own business when all of sudden, out of nowhere: I have an acute BMW obsession.
I fully blame the R3V community for showing off all of their awesome BMWs that made my obsession flourish.
First you start innocently enough looking at old BMWs on craigslist, ebay, forums, etc.
Then you start meeting people selling their BMWs and taking them for test drives & scrutinizing details.
Next you actually buy one. You wash it, wax it, put wheels on it, replace the timing belt, and show it off to friends and family.
But is that enough? No!
R3V adds a 5 series section to the forum, and you start thinking "hmm, maybe an e28?"
Then you go and get this:
I'd like to introduce you all to Molly. My daughters named her that because they think she looks like the car from the Harry Potter movies.
A little about Molly, in no particular order:
1986 535i with a 5 speed.
Price was, to me, very reasonable.
Condition seems solid. Clear title, little to no rust, one dent in front left fender.
Paint seems okay, should shine up good after some tlc.
Interior is fair. Driver seat foam is done and leather is torn, but passenger and rear seat leather and foam are in good shape, although dirty. Also should present nicely after a thorough cleaning.
I don't know what wheels Molly has, but I like them. 16" something.
Immediately needs a new power steering pump (or power steering delete?).
Last passed California emissions in Feb. 2011 with very good numbers.
Drives very smoothly, pulls hard through all gears, has decent maintenance record. Odo stopped at 257k, so don't know true mileage. Operating temp is right in the center between low and middle mark on gauge.
I bought it for my daughters, but I'm sure I'll get plenty of time behind the wheel too.
