Mcskibadee1 E30 thread. From assy to classy...

So I am bored here at work and thought that I would do my "build" thread to document what I have done wether good or bad to the old white beast.

    getrag 266 from 635csi 3.73 lsd
    billy sports with vogtland springs
    st sway bars
    tcklein rear shock mounts
    m3 solid control arm bushings
    new rear subframe bushings.
    e46 m3 shifter
    m30 b35 engine

I did not know anything about these cars other than I always liked the style and I had always wanted one. Getting one with a engine swap was a bit scary but it ended up being a great decision.

Here it is the night I purchased, missing IS lip, broken driver side strut tower and destroyed seats, broken sunroof etc.

After the purchase the first thing I did was get the windows tinted and take pics(obviously). Fluid changes and other things could wait.

I immediately took it to get the strut tower fixed and get the IS lip put on and painted.

    Damaged strut tower

    Fixed

    ready for pick up.

After this I took it to Castros had every fluid changed and a couple other small things fixed here and there. After that I needed to fix the interior. I had found some in great condition East of San Francisco and used craigslit ride share to get them down to L.A.

    Before

    after

I also did small things and this how she sat for a while.

Did a couple other things lik a MAF and CAI.

I have done a laundry list of things that most people wouldn't care about but the small things really get to me.

    -new glove box cover
    -Repaired glove box flashlight
-Battery cover and tray and first aid kit and triangle for trunk.
-Tire chock, frame jack, and tow hook.
    -euro grille.
    -euro clock.
-Windshield fluid reservoir and hoses replaced.
-fixed sunroof(man, I love the sunroof)
    -seat belt covers.
    -etc,etc

I have a newer car and I rarely drive it because i love driving this car so much.

Been a while but figured today was as good a day as ever to give some updates on the old beast.

First off, I broke my oil pan cherry.

Got rid of the frenched highs and decided to go completely hella french lights with some DDM 35watt 4500 HIDs as well as some ebay yellow fogs.

Got a rear strut bar, I like it and can't really tell a huge difference but it looks "cool".

    Really good quality.

I think the biggest thing I have done is my new stereo system. To tell you the truth I haven't really cared about the sound of my system since my high school days. What prompted this was a subscription to RDIO and fell in love with music again. My rear speakers were original premiums and i have to say they were pretty damn good, the fronts were garbage infinity speakers that had the cone completely detach from the rubber surround. I really wanted to do something different and since I had a rear strut bar a luke box wouldnt work. My main goal was to have a great sounding system that looked as stock as possible, no neon lights or any crazy stuff.

    Amp-Rockford Fosgate Prime R500-1 500-Watt Mono Amplifier

    Front Speakers-Alpine 5.25 type R spr-50c

    Rear speakers-Alpine SPS-510 5.25"

    Sub-SWR-10D2 - Alpine 10" Dual 2-Ohm Type-R Series Subwoofer

And on to the install. Like I said I wanted to do something different and being that I live in LA and have AAA you will see why it wasnt a big deal going the route I did.

Hard to tell but got the new tweeters to fit in the original location.

Aluminum baffle to let the air pass from the sub.

And it all looks stock when closed.

I think I might go 5 channel amp next. I am running my interior speakers of my Nakamichi CD400.

Looking great! Type Cs are still one of my all-time favorite wheels on these cars.

              Thanks guys.

My future plans are to just keep driving the car as is engine wise. I really like how it drives and of course I would love more power but I want to save my monies for now. There is a little oil leak and a little shimmy in the steering wheel so I have those next on my list of things to do.

I will get pics of the repaired shock tower later. I have a friend that owned a body shop and did the repairs. It looks stock and he reinforced everything. I put a IE strut tower bar on and it went in as any other bar went in. I'm sure if it was way off we would have known.

EDIT: @blackout The PO told me that he used to track the car and it had a super agressive suspension. He said that he drove it in the street with said suspension and hit a pothole and it just cracked. I'm sure there was previous damage or atleast something that weakened it and that just made it crack completely.

Modified iX skirts, cut at the top.
                        I like them a lot.

                            This is nice.

I've been thinking about doing the same with some IX skirts. This seals it.

looks good... be careful with the Borbet's they are pretty soft from my previous experiences. If you don't mind me asking did you go with the Bosch MAF or an AC Delco jobber?
