I'm confused, what part of these wheels are forged or is that just the name of the wheel.
ESM FORGED Manufacturing Process: ESM FORGED Wheels are fully custom tailored to your vehicle specs and sizes. We consider brakes, backspacing, track width and vehicle weight when building your set.100% made in USA using the finest aerospace 6061, T6 aluminum alloys. ESM FORGED Wheels starts life as a 6061 billet aluminum billet rod, which has been heat treated to T6 strength. Then placed on a lathe and CNC Machine, where each design is transferred from 3D CAD-engineered drawing to exact wheel specifications made by our customers. Once center designs have been milled down on CNC, cleaning all the rough edges and corners will be made once finishing touches can be made for painting or polishing. Once the centers have been either polished or powder coated we then place the centers in a spun aluminum 6061 barrels. Depending on each fitment offset and backspace the centers are placed in the barrels by heating it to expand the aluminum and then weld the centers together with the barrels to make a solid wheel. Using this 2 piece forged and welded technology makes fitments available for almost everything available in the industry today from extreme fitments to standard ones as well. Standard Wheel finish is fully polished with options of rivet colors ( Gold, Chrome, Black ) Any specs can be made ( Bolt Pattern, Center Bore, Offset, Backspace) Available in diameters from 15" - 20" with pricing starting at $700 per wheel.

Here's the description from the website.

HRE has the forging process on their site. The ESM forged wheel description is missing the forging part in their process. I think this is what is causing the confusion as to if it is a forged wheel or not.
6061 billet aluminum billet rod, which has been heat treated to T6 strength. This is the part when the forging should take place. Then placed on a lathe and CNC Machine, where each design is transferred from 3D CAD-engineered drawing to exact wheel specifications made by our customers.

Edit: I should mention I am talking about billet vs forged not billet forged wheels.
I don't see what everyones issue is. They are billet sections CNC'ed to make the centre. I do believe billet metals have better grain structure and strength to weight ratio.
Who gives a shit if it is not a true forged wheel. At the end of the day it is made with better materials then a forged item. The next step up from this would be a complete 1pc billet wheel.
Yes the wheel is welded together but so are my Hartge Japan 16x7. Now I wonder if they can do custom design wheels that would be sick as.Last edited by Massimo; 11-13-2012, 12:39 AM.sigpic
