The ticking your hearing is probably because the trip odometer is maxed out so reset it and it will stop thats what mine was doing.

Yeah, I know how you feel. I am trying to help a friend go pick up a 240z he is buying this weekend, but we need to replace the alternator before it can be driven home and there is no indoor work area where the car is.
