the new top installation is worth more than you paid for this beauty. change that timing belt ASAP like TFJR said. I didn't when I bought mine: I was driving down the highway doing like 80 the belt snapped and it broke a bunch of the pistons and valves, I was forced to have it sit for a whole damn year before I had the nearly 3000$ to fix it. So a timing belt change or rebuilding half the engine.

i second this - for whatever it's worth to you.

it is not worth the risk. i do timing belts upon purchasing any e30 regardless of what the previous owner says (if anything).

      it is very cheap insurance.

That is a very great looking car man.

And again do the timing belt as soon as you can, those $2300 won't mean a thing if something was to happen.

And the late valence can probably still fit with your diving boards, I'm not 100% on that but I think it could be done.

people are paying good money for cardinal interiors in UK and germany (£1000 approx) if decide you don't like it...thats should give you some extra cash for the project if you got some other interior you can source...

Great to see someone willing to invest more than the purchase price of the car in maintenance on a car. Thats the right attitude. Your car looks to be very clean and definitely a great starting point.

            Do the timing belt

Definitely spring for the bilsteins. You should decide if you will get some lowering springs too HD's are for stock height and Sports are identical in ride and valving except the shaft is shorter and optimized for lower ride heights. If you like the car now you will love it with a little stiffer suspension, as the bilsteins are valved well for stiffer springs and have a better ride your ride quality will be about the same but your handling will be significantly improved.

Get some new roundel stickers for your wheels for $5 each.

Definitely find a grey carpet and maybe a set of black door pulls. The all red is a too much. Heres a picture for comparison:
