Hello everyone.
I thought it about time that I post up a thread about my E30 318is. I bought it in about February this year and it looked pretty much the way it does now. The previous owners had Recaros put in and the rear seat covered in leather to match. The steering wheel was a painfully small Momo item and the gear knob and hand brake were also garish Momo models.
The first thing I did was replace the Momo wheel with an E30 M3 suede wheel that I purchased from Turner Motorsport in the States.
After that i had tossed and turned over what to do with the car. The M42 engine just did not have enough up and go and so I thought variously on turbo-charging the M42, getting individual throttle bodies and doing a decent NA build on the M42 or super charging it. In the end a friend of a friend came to sell his S50B32 out of an E36 M3 Evo. The sale included the radiator, gearbox, tail shaft, ECU, loom and engine mounts for a price I could not refuse. So the deal was done and the engine etc was sent to my friends at GT Auto Garage in Brisbane for the transplant to be undertaken.
In the meantime while the transplant takes place I have decided to re-do the interior somewhat. The dash has a few very small cracks in it so it is to be repaired. Once repaired the dash will be covered in black alcantara. To continue with the theme I bought a gear shift boot and hand brake boot from Josh from this site and they will be black alcantara with M tri-coloured stitching.
I have pulled the doors cards and the rear side cards form the car and they will be re-covered in black leather (currently vinyl) with the centre portion to be in black alcantara too.
I purchased a new M3 ZHP shift knob and will be sourcing a new hand brake.
I will update this thread as and when bits get done.
Tim.
