    1987 e30 340i

    hi all
    in Feb this year I decided I wanted to get shot of all my on going projects and build something I could take to track days , racing , drifting and the main for me sealed hill climbs........oh something to just have heaps of fun with.

    im a huge fan of the e30 bmw so I tought that would be a good place to start.

    I found a completely stripped 1987 320i shell (not 1 single bolt in it)with a full roll cage and all paper work it needed to get it on that track.
    and also found a 1990 316i as a parts car.

    here is a bit of a run down so far
    *full cage,
    * spear wheel well remover and plate welded in,
    * The front guards are a combination of e34 lip and e30 guards 10mm higher and 15mm wider than factory e30 guards.(this allows more clearance with the low setup ).
    * Rear guards cut out and welded shut (tubbed)to allow for a much lower ride and wider tyres.
    * another rear gaurd of a doner coupe has been cut down to a single layer and then made wider with dollys and hammering it(still have the drivers side to do)
    * Front set up is e36 m3 / e36 . brake discs and calipers are of a 328i BMW. e36 coil overs.
    * Rear set up is 318ti Twin cam . Hatch e36 . Subframe control arms and calipers and gaz coilovers
    * castor adjustable top hats,
    * tree house racing offset mounts
    * Dot rated Braded brake lines, all 6 lines
    * Manual steering rack
    *17x8 wheels allround
    * brake booster has been mounted in side to allow for easyer engine mounting
    * lexus 1ufe v8
    * 5speed
    * link ecu

    anyway here are some pics

    cheers

          First time I've seen a suspension setup like that on an e30. It's very interesting. How does it compare to the traditional setup of an e30?

              they are standard e30 guards and its had sections cut out of e34 guards and welded in so the lip is higher and wider.

                      It's a "real/true" rear coilover. Needs a lot of bracing of the rear shock top mounting points as they now become what the spring applies force to the car through and you don't need to use spring rates double what is actually needed because of the location of the stock spring. Beyond that I'm not sure what the advantages are performance wise.

                          Yep.

                          Best true rear coilover setup there is for E30's.

                            yes the rear are GAZ coil overs I bought them for a old escort I was working on and ust made a top mount so the fit the e30 .
                            the rear strut tower has been reinforced and also linked to the roll cage.

                            the front is a combination of e36 and e36 m3....but all just bolts on.

                              so it starts and runs (no exhaust just headers)
                              and just on the base map
