So on Saturday I took the head (885) that I bought from the junkyard for $60 on half off day and we tore it down and cleaned everything and sent it off to the machine shop. Everything looks good and there going to refinish all the valves and do something to the camshaft. Total will cost $150. So for $210 I will have a rebuild 885 head to put on Guinevere and she should be up and running in no time! I also scored a Getrag 260 for free but 2nd & 3rd are gone. What should I do with it? My uncle is a transmission mechanic so we'd have all the right tools to take it apart and fix it but is the price of replacing the synchros worth it compared to getting a working one? Only + to this is all the labor will be free. Can't wait to get her running!

I'm taking it to the shop my uncle works at tomorrow morning and were going to clean it all up and make sure it's all good and then send it to go get refinished! As soon as that's done it's just reassembly and then the real fun can begin.

Be sure to have the head tested and/or decked and don't use a victor reinz HG

    Also, new head bolts.

So I'm looking for some help. I live up in Apple Valley in the High Desert in Southern Ca and I don't have the right tools or knowledge to finish taking Guinevere apart and back together. My only mechanic friend is moving out of state and I don't know of any BMW guys around here. Any help would be appreciated because now all I have is the Internet and the Internet can't stand there and hold this part for me. =P Thanks Luke

So I just ordered a new head gasket & head bolts from Tuner Motorsports! As soon as they get here I'll be able to take her over to my uncles shop and get her all buttoned back up. Can't wait! I'll update as soon as the parts come in.

Thanks! So because I'm new here I'll tell you guys about me. I'm 18 I own a 1995 525i got it for my 16th birthday and payed my parents half of what they paid for it over the last two years. Have been doing plenty of repairs and mods. =) Just bought the e30 on a whim with my Christmas money, best decision ever! When I first told my mom about the e30 she said no ask your father but I doubt he'll say yes. Next morning my dad said he didn't mind I'm 18 and its my money. =P I can't wait to get it running! Still looking for some front seats for it. It came with sedan seats and its a coupe..... PO was mental. Other than that its a great car and I can't wait to drive it!

Yup as soon as the timing belt comes in it should be running! And it was 50% off at the junkyard for New Years for a whole week! It was awesome! I also picked up extra bulbs, fuses, and a almost mint condition drivers side tan leather comfort seat for my e34! $17! No rips and barely and wear. Must have had a seat cover on it for its whole life! =) I love junkyards =) now to find some sport seats for the e30.

$70 for a clean cylinder head with 3 month warranty sounds as much as a steal as the whole car for 300$ !

welp I hope everything works out for you when putting it all back up.

Yup I paid $300 cash for the car went to the junkyard grabbed a clean cylinder head with a 3 month warranty for $70 and just ordered a new timing belt and tensioner for $52! So for about $450 I have a running car! And the registrations good till September 2014! I feel like I robbed the guy blind. Oh well another mans trash is another mans treasure =)
