Quick update:
I made the mistake of using the 5 series rubber trans mounts, and apparently they are too short, as they allowed the transmission yoke to be at an angle against the driveshaft flange, which in turn caused the driveshaft guibo to start tearing apart. Apparently, you're supposed to use m3 mounts with the g265 transmission. Apparently, if I had read carefully, I would have known that. Apparently, I done goofed.
I placed an order with revshift for a set of poly trans mounts. They should arrive on Friday, then I get to pull the exhaust again, drop the driveshaft, and replace the guibo and trans mounts, and hopefully, put the driveline at an angle that the guibo won't much itself in another thousand miles.

Relative to the car, how level is the motor front to back? On my m30 swap car, I have it 4 degrees slanted (rear lower) as referenced from the belt line trim. I don't think I can get it any leveler.
Is this with the 1-piece driveshaft? If not, you could possibly lower the carrier bearing with some spacers to flatten the driveshaft to engine/trans relation?Last edited by Ether-D; 06-03-2015, 06:49 AM.Originally posted by Andy.BWhenever I am about to make a particularly questionable decision regarding a worryingly cheap diy solution, I just ask myself, "What would Ether-D do?"

Long overdue update:
The proper trans mounts lifted the tail up where it should be, which means the car is back on the road, drives smoothly, and has been reliable. That means we've been out driving, rather than posting on here.
Since I was already in there replacing the trans mounts, I took the opportunity to replace some shift linkage bushings with washers to tighten up the shifter. The car has been awesome ever since. It is a blast to drive aggressively, and the torque of the m30 makes it smooth and easy to coax through traffic.
An unexpected side effect was the ability of the lowly m30b34's power, combined with it's weight, is enough to overload the brakes on mountain roads. I took part in a road rally event around Watkins Glen during the 6 Hours at the Glen weekend last week, and on a couple mountain passes, some of the long downhill sections where enough to experience some clench inducing brake fade. I'm going to start looking for the required bits to swap in rx7 calipers up front in order to make sure I can keep the car safely under control.

Another long overdue update:
A friend of mine (who doesn't post much on r3v) is parting out an IX, and let me snag some parts off of it this past weekend. I grabbed the IX washer fluid bottle, which let me free up space in front of the passenger side wheel well. After that, I re routed the air intake a little bit to move it further away from the radiator, and hopefully in the path of cooler air from around the headlights. While I was in there extending wires and hoses, I cleaned up a bit of wiring to tidy things up.
I also grabbed the late style coolant bottle, and fit that as well, clearing space around the driver side of the engine. Before, it was fairly cramped under the hood, but with a few of the items moved out to the edges , it really frees up space, and improves the overall appearance.

Another quick update:
The car had been running rough lately, particularly at idle. I know the spark plugs are new ish, the valve adjustment is good, and the compression is ok. The injectors, however... They were the injectors that came with the engine. The engine in the run down car that had sat for years. The injectors that were probably pretty gummed up to begin with.
I should have known better from the get go, but I finally got around to buying a new set of ford type 3 injectors to swap in from MEPEH. They arrived in the mail today, so I threw them in, and it made a huge difference. The engine runs much smoother.
Unfortunately, I also came across a few more issues tonight. I noticed the right rear shock mount is on its last legs and clunking. Fortunately, I have a set of nearly new ones kicking around I can swap in tomorrow. Hopefully, the car will make it through the next few months without any major attention. (fingers crossed).

What did the injectors cost you? And how many lb/hr are they?Originally posted by Andy.BWhenever I am about to make a particularly questionable decision regarding a worryingly cheap diy solution, I just ask myself, "What would Ether-D do?"
