My 88' 318i | Underpowered Euro Content

Installed the one touch modules :)
Finally i can enjoy parking peacefully while my window is closing without me holding the button :)

Also got a goodie for a future build :)





It's a Garrett TB2514 Turbo :) Came from a stock E34 525tds.
Should be perfect for the small M40 :)

Plans are to start the build in the start of 2016. Since i will have pass my two-year inspection in the end of this year, and will be able to pass without inspection guys pointing fingers at the turbo and shouting ILLEGAL! :D

Hey guys,

Been a long time since i updated this thread..
But i sure do have news :)

First and by far the best one - my engine seized :devil:
This is my being towed back home from the place it seized :)



Dont know why it seized, havent had time to open it up yet, but dont really care, i wont be swaping it back for sure.

There were lots of options, but i have chosen an M42, because light, more power, and still a 4-cil engine :)

Here it is at it's full glory:





Before it goes in, its going to get a rebuild, M40 pistons to lower CR, new chain, tensioner, etc. Will make it Turbo ready for the future :)
Also while im a at it, got an M20 flywheel and clutch.

Here is a 5mm metal flange cut out for the new sump. Gonna make a full-metal one, since i know il break the alu. one soon.



Also some upgrades for the M42, everyone must know what this is:

Yeah, didnt really want to go 24v route, too common :)
Really love the lightness of the 4-cil :)

Should be a preatty good upgrade from the M40 :) +20kW :)
With a turbo it will be really good :)

Hoping to have around 150kW once Turboed :)
Simple 0.5 Bar for a start, them il need some Megasquirt action :)

Thought i would update this thread a little.
Nothing big has happened, still waiting on engine parts to arrive, but hopefully everything will be here this week.

Block was give to a shop to be honed, and all the bottom end balanced. Pistons were changed to M40 ones to lower CR.

Here's a few pics of the dissassembly process:





Everything is being changed. All valves, seals, tensioners, chain, guides, etc. Everything. Turbo will be added later, after a proper brakedown. That is because no proper engine management is there yet. Will need Megasquirt later.
Head will also be ported/polished and a custom sump will be made. Steel one, not alu one.

On a side note, got some goodies for the car lately :)

Really love theese wheels on the car, just to install proper tires on them, since theese ones are too big..

Already got 205/45 R16 tyres for them, still need to install.
Also got a new Rieger Infinity lip, since mine one broke last summer....
I mean, its 3 piece now, but dont think that its a good think...

Thats it for now i guess. Will update once i have more news :)

EDIT: Did i mention i got a 3.25 ratio mid-case LSD? :) Should be a good match for the M42.

Some random updates from a few days :)

Head assembly in progress, head was ported and polished:



Bottom end assembly:



M40 pistons are used instead of M42 ones, to lower the CR and increase the volume by a little bit. Custom exhaust cam was installed with delayed exhaust timing and also increased the exhaust stroke time to have more ventilation.

Chain with guides installed:





Towed the car to the garage yesterday, such a nice ride :) Even though i was towed :D



And finally today, started tearing the old stuff apart, will need a new radiator since mine is clogged at the bottom...



So nice to work again on the E30 :)
Much better the E36 i daily drive atm :)

Some king of chinese car part shop :) Cost for all 4 was about 12 Eur :)
Totally the same as OEM ones except no Hella or Bosch marking on them.

Car is running long time, feeling strong on the engine :)

Bought an LPG diagnostics cable and calibrated it.
Also finished my R16 Style 5's, waiting for paint now :)
