    Autocrossing the 318is

Here are some pics of an autocross I went to with 2 of my friends . It was put on by a local lotus club and was an instructional autocross so I had an instructor with me for a few runs. They started us off with two courses, one focusing on slalom and the other on braking and turning, then combined the courses in the afternoon. I learned some new skills and enjoyed my first large autocross (lap times were in the low 50 second range).

My friends brought out their e36 M3 and '01 s2000.

    My best was 51.8
    e36 M3 best was 51.2
And the s2000 with crap tires got a 52.5 or so

Good fun, hope to do more in the future.

Damn, way to keep up with the e36 and BEAT the S2k. Hopefully the course was more valuable to them.

"Having won more road races than any other model in history, the E30 M3 is considered by many to be the world's most successful road race car." - Simply put, E30s kick ass.

I don't have mad skillz, in equal cars the s2000 driver has beaten me and the M3 driver. But I definitely could have been faster; better start, braking later, setting up the straights better, being more aggressive...

My instructor helped me find a good seating position, moved my mirrors (like you see above) to increase my vision from the car, told me how to set up each turn, where my car should be and where it should be pointing. He didn't give much more feedback other than dissecting my run and telling me where I could have been faster or where I messed up. He then took me for a ride in his '05 Elise, great experience.

I have a small autocross tomorrow, I'll see if I can put in to practice the stuff I learned.

                    More of pic 2:

That is March AFB or Sacramento ALC or Norton AFB?
