OEM mudflaps would do the same job and look much, much better. Have to find the early model rears, but the fronts are the same for all the years and still sold new by Bav Auto.

Actually they wouldn't. These are 12 inches wide so they will catch more debris than stock. Plus they aren't actually mounted flush to the body so it will be easy to spray away salt and ice from in between the cracks. Keep in mind the only reason I have mudflaps on my freakin bmw is I drive it in the snow. Function over form.
Yes the fronts are more or less the same for all years (they really aren't) but the kicker comes in the rears: Convertibles have metal bumpers, but lower rear arches. This means there is a specific flap you need for the rear of a convertible which is different from anything else. Which means it's hard to track down and special order and expensive. Can you say no thanks bud.
Plus with these - hey I can take them off and put them on another car in the future. So I'm saving money again. And hey, I like the look, it's my car, that's the end of it.

Also the TB heater gasket isn't hard, just be careful when removing the torx screws so you don't snap one like I did. I ended up just JB welding the cover back on because I didn't do a good enough job drilling and retapping. Whatever. I'll be looking for a new TB soon, seeing that JB weld makes me feel OCD crazy.
Also you will not regret those mudflaps. Whether they look good or not (i think they do though, sets off the interior and delphin), they're very good in the winter, trust me. I wish I had a set for my rear end like you do instead of just fronts..... :)

Finding flaps for an early model like yours should be easier than mine. I noticed at the last meet you only had them on the front. I think they're only like $100/pair if you can find them. But again compared to mine yours shouldn't be that hard...
It's funny because my buddy with a '16 WRX just picked up a set of red mud flaps after seeing them on my car. This is only a couple months after redoing his interior red after I'd done it on mine. It's funny because he says he's going to garage his car for the winter

^ not yet. All I've done for the trunk is replaced the tail light gaskets and the red reflector part of the center brake light (and its gasket), which came off a parts car. Lots of people have issues with the gasket that goes around the housing for the brake light but I haven't had a problem with that yet.
The new 300 newton meter trunk shock being on just the drivers side hasn't caused a problem yet, though you can definitely see from a few feet away the trunk sticking up on the drivers side. The trunk gasket itself is in decent shape and I've been using bmw gummi pflege to help the rubber stay fresh!
Still, if there's a way you can weld in the bracket for a passenger side trunk shock mount like in the later model convertibles, I'd do it because having dual 150nm shocks is just a better idea overall

My windshield wiper linkage has been screwy since I bought the car and the other day it got worse: the linkage broke apart again but now the wipers would park straight up on the windshield instead of down at their rightful place. After doing some research I decided to just replace everything all in one.
There's a guy named Pete in Manchester, CT who has a building full of old BMW's so I knew he would have the part. I'd lost his phone number but know where his place is so on the second day of driving over on my lunch break I found him! He helped me pull the linkage from a car he had around and show me a few pointers on how to put it back in.
What works best is removing the blower motor and upper blower motor housing and its flaps. I only got one flap undone and was scare of breaking the other, but I was able to slip it through anyway. This was probably the hardest part of the whole thing because the plastic is super old and brittle.
Next you want to remove the wiper motor from the linkage so first you want to loosen and remove the center bolt. and then the three around it. A 10mm ratcheting wrench is a godsend at this point. I did it most of this from the passenger side of the car, peering across into the wiper compartment. Then unplug the motor and remove the wiring clip from its metal bracket. Then the motor slips out with some massaging. After that you're about to twist the entire linkage toward the front of the car and up so that the spindle shafts which the wiper arms attach to get pulled under their holes. And out comes the linkage!

Installation is the opposite of removal. Just make sure not to drop your 7mm 1/4" deep socket into the depths of the motor and also line the linkage which connects to the wiper motor all up in a line. It just should come straight out from the motor with no kinks or turns. The arm should be fully extended, ie. as furthest toward the drivers side of the car that it can be. Then tighten that center nut!
The best part is they worked on the first try! I expected this to be one of the worst jobs but it turned out to be one of the easiest. Now if only my smileys could have gone so easily.. I mean what!Last edited by Das Delfin; 12-22-2015, 09:57 PM.

welp.. got a set of these in prep for morimoto 7.0 HID conversions.. but haven't done the conversion part yet. I'm halfway hoping to hold out for LED low beams between now and uh, when I have the money. I went with Depo over used Hellas because they're brand new and buying them online won't be a crapshoot. Plus I won't feel bad cutting up these lights.
And thanks to Steven I now have some nice cup holders! It's the small things in life...
