    Crystal Lake cruise

Took a drive on Thanksgiving up to the Crystal Lake area since I couldn't fly home and don't really have anyone out here. Spent a nice afternoon carving the canyon roads and stopped at the top to watch the sun set and the stars come out.

Base of the canyon heading up! It was like 94 degree's, hot as hell for late November for me!

Passed a few of the reseviors which really give you an idea how bad the California drought is.

    Way down...

    Even further down...

Isn't there supposed to be water here?

Stopped a scenic turn off and chilled on a log right in the middle of this creek. It was super peaceful and a nice change from the usual LA noise.

Back on the road I stopped a few places to snap a few pictures.

The road gets super twisty towards the end so I enjoyed the rest of the drive to the top. Made a quick detour for some tasty grilled cheese.

And hit the parking pad at the top just in time to catch an awesome sunset.

    Dat view...

I brought a fold up chair and sat and watched the rest of the sunset and had a few beers. It was awesome.

Then the stars came out. It's been awhile since I've really been able to see the stars and being 5000+ ft up and away from the smog gave a super clear view.

Sat around enjoying some quiet and headed back down. It was a little scary in the dark since there are so many totally blind corners and tight hairpins but it was great. Can't wait to make it back up.

I love that road. Back in the late 80's and early 90's we use to cruise up there and have a few brews and get outta town for awhile. Yeah kinda technical for driving skills getting up there. Sure isn't a place for trying to test your bravery skills on driving.

I've lived here for 6 months now. It has rained 3 times and rarely for more than 1/2 hour. And thanks!

We could use some of that warm weather and twisty roads on long Island. Nice car.

Thanks, it was pretty spectacular. It was the first time since moving to SoCal that I've had total peace and quiet

Awesome pics. Makes me get sad knowing I'll be in the Midwest next year same time.

What part of the midwest? Fall and early winter are a gorgeous time of the year depending where you're at.
