I put Silvania Silverstars in my car just to get a whiter light from my headlights. By no means do they look close to HID. So does HID look appropriate on an E30? If so, the pictures don't come close to doing the car justice.

No car. Friend has a warehouse full of hids. The kit was plug and play. 250 shipped.

anyone read danialsterns website about HIDs and how the lense is different for halogen and HID bulbs? Doesn't really make sense to me since most new cars just have a clear plastic lense with HIDs. how can it affect lighting that much if we retrofit HID's on smiley lenses?

I guess I mean which car manufacturer uses these ballasts?

IMHO it is because of the ellipsoids. Newer cars have them. Same light concept. If it is a reflector housing like most Toyotas etc, its not as effective as its not direct light from the bulb. Still better, just not as great.

For these cars though unless you are running H4 setups, you have ellipsoids or sealed beams which cant be upgraded without full replacement.
