I agree, but keep in mind that most of us don't have the time/money/space to be able to attempt a rebuild like this.
I dont really have the time, but I am going to make a go at rebuilding an M20 starting here in a few weeks. But at this point I have no real plan beyond picking up the engine from its current owner.

I hear ya. It was only until 9 months ago when I bought a house, then had a garage, and a 2nd car so that I could really to dedicate to a project I didn't have to have done the same day.

I'm planning to start building/rebuilding a new head for my M20 soon. I've got the head, and about a third of the parts I'll need. Now that I'm going to have a garage and space to work, I'm really excited about getting started.
I'm not all that excited, its just I am concerned about the longevity of the engine I have. Given what happened to Scott after he got my old car, lets just say I am concerned about the other shoe dropping sometime soon . . . .
