    How to make a 318 into a 327i

This was our weekend project. The car is cowden_12's 84 318i

first step is removing the m10

next, find yourself a good m20b27 (110k miles from an automatic)

Josh replaces the m10 with himself

Then, I replaced josh with the m20

somehow we got it out of the garage running

    all done

Runs good. 3.91 diff needs to go, and its still stock head for now. Soon its getting the modified eta head on my car possibly with a cam upgrade, maybe new exhaust too and a chip. This car should be very quick when its all done. He'll probably run a 3.73 large case rear in the end.

Are you sure that engine is an M20B27 as it sure looks like a m20B25 325i engine?

Good deal, are you going to move the battery to the trunk?

Car looks pretty nice for an '84 as well.

Damn Jon, you really can do anything...

I love that garage people, its where my car turned from a sponge into a carver.

When we gonna paint my car?
          Reminiscing...

Yea Ely, we converted it to motronic 1.1 and put the i valve cover and intake on it before putting it in the car. That way when we swap the head over we didnt have to covert it then. He just needs to restrain himself from reving the engine too high for awhile. It also got new timing belt and tensioner, new water pump.

Clutch and flywheel are from 325i. We were going to use the dual mass with a new sachs clutch but the flywheel bolts we had were too short and I had the I flywheel sitting around that I was going to put on my car.

Also I totally forgot that the shifter assembly were completely different for 4 and 6 cylinder cars, so luckily we were able to snag the whole linkage from my friend's 89 as his is torn down for an m50 swap.

Kinda reminds me of my car.

Hey uh, what do you plan on doing with that M10? How did it run?

eta engine for the 2.7 bottom end. Its basically getting the equivelant of a 323 head for a 6000+ rpm 2.7 liter.

the m10 ran fine, I think it had somewhere around 100k on it. i know he will be trying to get rid of it.
