The New Car 92' Black/Black Vert'

Hey R3v, well I wasn't going to do it but I'm getting bored just making for sale threads, a thread for this beautiful thing! Don't get this mixed up with the little 318i Convertible I just sold last month for a steal of a deal, this is a completely different color :D

I'll start off on how I started my Mtech 2 Thread, how I stumbled across the ad. on Craigslist. I was actually suppose to see a 1 owner 89' 325i on Saturday, but after seeing the listing on this convertible on Thursday night (Two days before the appointment for the red one) I decided to give the guy a call and see what it was all about. Did I mention the ad. was only listed for 38 minutes? I asked the normal questions, if the ODO works, hows the dash, any leaks, so on so forth. Sounded like it was worth the drive out and I sure think it was. I was actually late for work for this one but the boss was OK with it.

It was the fellows wife's car, garaged since day 1 according to them, and had owned it since 97' I have ALL 23 years of maintenance, including the receipts for the warranty claims, all 3 keys, owners manual, all matching VIN panels. Very nice people, in fact they just had the thermostat and coolant replaced two days before I bought the car just to be up to date for the most part on maintenance! Paints in decent shape, pictures make it look a lot better but there's no clear coat peal (if you took the time to read this far and know the answer, let me know if Schwarz is single or clear coated please), back window was replaced a couple years back, surprisingly its the original BMW top in great shape. There's some scratch's around the door handle area, which I was a little stumped on how someone can scratch up that area so much but my neighbor brought up a great point, her finger nails probably did the damage. Hopefully if the paint is in fact 1 stage, it'll rub right out.

So far the plans are to diagnose some minor oil leaks, change the 8 year old timing belt I had my Dad drive back in, water pump, spark plugs, that good old stuff. Might even call a paint-less dent guy out to remove 3 small dents. Glad to finally own another M20 convertible to say the least.

It started raining by the time I got off work, and hasn't stopped since so not many pics to share but still, onto the pics!

    Driving back

It gets worse, I drove it to work the next day to pressure wash the engine bay off from dirt and grime to have a cleaner engine to work on. I took it so slow when starting off from complete stops! Haven't started it since, and don't plan too until the new belt's installed.

The New Car 92' Black/Black Vert'

Thanks guys! I just made a huge pelican parts order last night, the plan is to get the new belt installed on the weekend, along with a new camshaft seal, water pump, tensioner, and other various "while your in there" parts. After that, I need to mess around with the electric top, apparently it doesn't fold down anymore but I have yet to try.. I'm hoping the owner meant to say "the window won't go down" because I already fixed that, it was only the switch.

Well my first portion of parts came in today. It looks like Pelican is having the other parts sent out from there other warehouse (which has happened to me before). I bought a Husco Armrest off a member here two days ago as you can see in the pics, not sure if I'll be using it but time will tell. It'll need a re wrap which isn't a big deal really. The spray can is some good old SEM Black Trim paint, my local paint store a mile away always has it in stock :D

Nice pickup! Schwartz should be single stage. The one I have cleans up real nice with a wash clay and wax.

Awesome, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. Both my old Alpine white, and current white e30 cleaned up great, one stage will really clean up if you put enough time into it. I'm hoping for the same results with this car.

Well I signed up for over time so it looks like I can't get the belt in this weekend.. So the new plan was to put it in tomorrow, as I have the whole day free tomorrow. Well I realized tomorrow's also a no-go because the other parts box from pelican has the new tensioner spring, and pin in it. It's been pretty cold out anyways, plus raining everyday since I bought the car.

Well another small update, I just picked these up 15min ago. The car has two missing, and the guy who sold these didn't want to split the set. Regardless for only $30 dollars It's nice to have extra's.

Finally a rain free day! I pushed it out of the driveway and snapped some much better pics. I'm really hoping Schwarz is in fact 1 stage paint, because if it is I think it'll clean up really nice. The worst of the scratch's around the drivers door I doubt will rub out, but hey, its stock 20 year old paint! Today I'm just going to detail it and clean out the interior, maybe take off the grills and spray them with a coat or two of the SEM paint I bought. Here's some before pics

Thanks for looking, and Merry Christmas!
