Hi r3v,
My name is Will. And well... E39's and E46's have dominated my passion for BMW for years. Although E30's have recently grown on me in the last two years. I've been into BMW's for many years and had been posting on bimmerforums and m5board.com about my cars. This is my 3rd BMW E30 acquisition and I have been way overdue on registering with this forum. My last E30 was was a '91 Brilliant Rot M-technic convertible. I sold it to a guy named Lloyd in the southbay who I'm certain is on here. The one before that was an '87 Royal Blue 325i vert. Having never owned an E30 up until a little under two years ago, I was relatively uncertain on what kind I was looking for. The '87 was pretty far gone and the M-Technic, though a clean title, CA rust free example, in the end needed a substantial amount of work to get it dialed in perfectly and really looking prime.
And then came this 3rd Alpine white '92 318i Convertible whom I purchased off of member Thizzelle about 3 months ago. It's a solid low mileage clean title plastic bumper E30 5-speed with an M42, which is what I wanted to go with this time around. 113,000 original miles with working odometer and all matching VIN's. I'm planning on more or less doing a minor restoration on it and then using it as a daily, as my 2002 Dinan S1 M5 averages around 12-14mpg and I've maxed out my allowed lease miles on my 2014 328d on my 2-year lease already. LOL.
This car had been in storage for a while, as Chris the seller had a bunch of E30 projects going on and this one sat a bit.
So far I've knocked out: New OEM battery, fuel filter, air filter, oxygen sensor, oil change, installed a new remanufactured steering rack (the current one was busted and puking out power steering fluid, which I'm told is a relatively common E30 issue), performed four wheel alignment and cycled through two cans of Jectron when filling the tank. Also clay barred the paint and then hit it with the orbital, buffing it with a coat of polish along with two coats of some Mothers synthetic wax.
I also bought a set of BBS 14" basketweaves and sourced some center caps and slapped those on to start off and to simply get rid of the bottle caps. However I'm now opting for a set of 16" style 5's with 5 to 4 lug hub adapters that I'm going to purchase off a buddy. (that said I will be selling a set of the 14" basketweaves with center caps that I will be posting on the classified section cheap in case anyone is interested)
Now currently sorting out a minor vacuum leak that i've identified to be coming from an intake hose.
Some of next items on my list: rear euro license plate filler, a performance chip, floor mats, and a brand new convertible top canvas replacement.
Anyhow, I'm really looking forward to utilizing this awesome forum dedicated to the E30 BMW and am stoked to have solid base for an E30 vert build.
And now for some pictures :D:D
Day I bought it:

Where she sits now:

And of course, my old M-Technic:

If I plan to keep this car a very long time, I may seek an S50 motor swap, but thats a ways away.
Cheers,
- Will
