actually, you have it backwards. increasing the track increases the leverage that the wheel/tire has on the spring, resulting in a lower effective spring rate, which in turn increases body roll. with increased track you'd ideally want to up the spring rate to compensate.

Handling issues.

Widening the track of the rear only = worse handling for sure.

Widening the rear track alone would tighten up the car. That can be good or bad depending on the way you drive and the original roll couple distribution. Manufacturers usually design in a safety factor in favor of understeer. Most folks are unnerved by a car that gets loose with trailing throttle/braking. In that sense, tightening up the car would be bad. If you have modified the car's handling and it went too loose it would be good.
