So funny thing happens when you put the car back together quickly without checking on other peoples work. These are the struts as I recieved them from Vorshlag after doing the AST5100 modification.



The "dogbones" at the very bottom below Lee's gold bumpsteer spacer is actually supposed to be the other way around (closer to the hub, not further). Two weeks ago I put the front end back together because we were moving into a new house and part of moving out of the old place required a movable car!

I made the mistake of not double checking vorshalgs assembly and just stuck them on as you see it. Well, now I have probably 6 degrees of negative camber and 20 degree's of toe out! Whoops! Not a big deal to pull the struts off again (i'm getting fast at it) but just another minor annoyance to deal with. I wish I had the time that day to just pop the struts apart, but I was in a serious time crunch so I decided to just scrub the front tires for the 5 mile move than another late night in the garage.

You can kind of see the camber/toe issue here. I'll get a better pic up tomorrow.



Also the 6" springs that vorshlag said they use are way too short without a helper spring in addition to the main spring (we never talked about helper springs) Currently my oil pan to ground distance would give every hipster on here a chubby.

Unfortunately I've decided not to do a whole lot to the E30 for the rest of the year. The suspension took so long to get finished, I decided to concentrate on fixing a few nags I've had on the M5. I'm taking the M5 to Oktoberfest in Monterey this year, so I have a pretty healthy list of things I'd like to address before then. When I get around to finishing the E30, it should be pretty gnarly, but until then it will just sit patiently in it's new garage stall.

Now while that CSL is very nice, I wouldn't go so far as to calling your car a pile. Your car my friend is inspiration to many on this forum that strive after purpose built vehicles! Not to mention your credentials to back that up, what...maybe a handful of guys on here can say they've thrown there car around the Nürburgring?!
I love your car, super raw and straight to the point, the "GTFO" on the wing is the icing on the cake!

18x9.5 et22 wtih 245/35/18 Kuhmo XS's. Some assortment of spacers on the front and back, but I forget the thicknesses.





So I found a few pictures of the car up at HPR for the first time... But then I read this thread from Finland and an E46 M3 CSL. My god my car is a gigantic pile of shit compared to that thing!

Hey man, what were your wheel and tire specs on this setup? I just landed a new set of DTM flares for my build and wanted to see what people were stuffing under them. I love the nice little rake it has, I know some are against it but it appeases my american muscle needs haha.

I was actually looking at the pics I took at the 2009 DTM Revival, and I realized that I didn't have a whole lot of really good engine pics. BTW, did you ever send out that camshaft clamping tool? I hope it's not lost in the mail!

So the last little round of parts showed up today.
-Bimmerworld sway bar links to replace the IE ones that died.
-Ground control race rear shock mounts
-Hyperco 2.5" 600lb front springs
-Hyperco 2.25" 750lb rear springs
-OE Mcoupe rear diff cover (think I might add a temp gauge to it)

I read Lee say somewhere that the DTM cars used an E28 washer reservoir for the catch can. My M5's washer tank is getting a little faded, so I might buy a new one for it, and delegate the old one to the E30...

Your last PM sums it all up pretty well. If/when this suspension needs servicing, Lex will be the first person I call. I won't make that mistake again.

Eric - that's what I did. I have an air/oil separator canister. It just vents the crank case vapors back to the atmosphere so it's not sucked back into the engine.

It's definitely on my list to do now with the carbon airbox. what canister did you use, and off the shelf item, or a homebrew setup?

HA! yeah right! Those came from BluntTech. Funny that I ordered them the same day (but later in the day) as finalizing the bill for the struts and they arrived before the struts did... Steve's customer service is the best in the business.
