On a serious note, busted oil pan usually means fucked motor.
not necessarily. as long as he didn't run the motor dry. it seems like its still contains atleast a quart in circulation. Cracked oil pans happen all the time. Especiall with our e30s with its position

I hit a 4-5" curb in my Jstock-ed e30. Oil pan busted, oil pump broke off, steering rack has a hole in it, etc. It was in a car accident so I had the engine off well within 20 seconds of hitting the curb. Engine still rotates freely. I have yet to install the engine in something else and actually run it though.

My dad, back when his car was still a US spec 633CSi, had his oil filter seal die on him while he was coming home one night... Pumped out all the oil, but he couldn't stop because it was a total blizzard out. I know someone is gonna say something about how stupid that is, but this was one of the good blizzards that killed some people who stopped on the highways... It happens all the time, people park, get snowed in and stuck, and then freeze or die of CO2 poisoning because they leave their cars on for the heater. Made it 25 miles home and the motor ran good for another two years!!! M30 FTW. He also had his coolant freeze once coming home on the very same highway... That actually did it for that motor, it wasn't siezed, but it started overheating regularly after that and a week later a 3453cc Euro motor sat in it's place.

yeah, the engine will be ok, it had plenty of oil on the parts and we had to spin it to do various things and it rotated very nicely.
