Do you need to pump the brake pedal once to get brakes to grab high up?

I have a similar setup to you and need to pump the brake pedal once before it grabs as normal. The first time i brake the pedal is very low.
I know this is a 9 month old post, but this is called pad knockback and it is basically a function of how much runout (axial play) there is in your wheel bearings (and how much grip you have, more cornering Gs means more wheel bearing stress). The disc shifts axes when you corner hard (no wheel bearing is perfect, they will all have end play), which winds up pushing the pads back into the calipers. That is partially why floating rotors are so prized, because they can shift axes relative to the wheel bearing, which lets them keep the same axis even if the wheels haven't, and they won't force the pads back into the calipers every time you take a hard corner.

I'd imagine that if you replace your wheel bearings, or if you have a 4-lug E30, do a 5-lug conversion as they tend to have bigger, more robust (and precise) bearings, that will help this problem. Or the aforementioned floating rotors.

There is an excellent stoptech article on this should you want to read more.
