    My Bomb, 1985 BMW 318i

Hello. This is my project car 1985 318i.

This is how it lookd 1,5 years ago:

    Facts:
    1985 318i
Options: side repeaters and headlight washers(removed, didn't work)
    Zobelbraunmetallic, brown cloth interior.

The car had custom build 2,3 m10 engine, 15" Fondmetal rims, Diy smoked smileys and late style front end conversion, at the picture frot end still had -40mm spring, while back springs had more aggressive drop.

After a while car started to mix oil and coolant, so I thought I had blown headgasket, but I found I had craked block, so I just moved internal to new block with fresh bearings, after a few months the block cracked again(bore is too big), so I dismanled whole car and started to reconstruct it.

    At the moment:

I found that body was worse that it seemd, by now I have stripped all paint and other coatings from engine bay and front wheel compartments, engine bay is on epoxy primer and wheel wells have all new under coating.

Next step is replacing rockerpanels/sills, on the second picture you can see the passenger side rocker opened.

I bought brand new oem front valace and the piece that runs between the tail light and rear apron:

The rear wheel arch lips will be widened 5-10mm and rolled, but not pulled.
Car will have stock chrome euro bumpers, I have the m-tech wing for the trunk, but I'm not too sure if I'll ever put it on, no big modifications will be done to body, no skirts or big spoilers. The car will stay Zobelbraumetallic, I hope I'll get it to painter during summer 2007.

I have 16*9" borbets(well 3 at least, 1 is damaged, maybe repairable), I'll polish them later.

Suspension will be quite modified, coilovers on front, and adjustable angles front and rear.

I'll write about the suspension setup later, with some pictures, sorry About the rather big pictures, I'll use smaller in future, feel free to comment.

92mm while stock is 89mm, older 320i or 2002 blocks are beefier, Maybe next engine will have old block.

I had luck and got mine from a dealer which stopped selling BMW parts, it had been laying around for years, it cost me like 30e.

How did you remove the rocker panel from the car? Did you just cut it off, or did you drill any spot welds?

Do you live sufficiently north so that it's dark most of the day?

True that, trying to reduce smokin, pack a day now.

On door jamb and on lower seam I drilled spot welds open, but the lower section had some rust, so cut it of later and made reinforced one. Other ares I simply cut the original sheet metal with grinder.

I live in the middle part on Finnland, it's quite dark at winter, some 6 hours of light during winters, on 300km north from here the sun never sets on summer and never raises on middle winter.

Here is the better list of things, most of these are plans, as you see the car is just a shell right now.

                      Body:
                      New OEM fenders.
New OEM front valace converted to 1986-1987 modell.
                      Searching OEM "spoiler" lip.
New aftermarket rocker panels and rear side pieces.
New OEM tail light panel and rear apron.
Rear arches will be widened 5-10mm using aftermarket reapair pieces, trying to keep factory look.
Original euro chrome bumpers consider buying new "frame piece" to rear, since mint rear bumper seems impossible to find.
                      Possibly M-tech rear lid spoiler.
                      Webasto Hollandia sliding moon roof.

                      Future engine:
                      M10"b23" (2293 cc)
                      BMW 1976 e21 320 block(thicker cast than e30 block).
                      Custom made 86mm stroke crank.
                      Mahle forged pistons, 92mm bore.
                      C/R 9,4:1
Stock m10 rod, balanced, polished and p-blasted.
Megasquírt with programmable distributor ignition(no edis).
Custom build intake manifold, using pieces from e21 320i CIS and m30b35.
Great desire for turbo boosting, but it has to wait for rest of the car.

                      Driveline:
BMW e21 320 forged flywheel and pressure assembly.
                      228mm metal clucth disc.
                      Stock 318i 5-speed getrag.
DIY short shift shifter with metal bushings on selector rod ends.
Type 188(big case) diff 3,91 if N/A shorter if charged, dreaming about helical diff.

                      Suspension:
                      front:
DIY coilovers front, 325i struts with welded thread sleeves.
                      Camber&caster adjust upper mounts.
Bilstein sprint shocks, bump stops shortened real short.
M3 style swaybar links with 325i swaybar.
Rebuild control arms with polyasetatic eccentric CAB's.
                      E36 325i Steering rack.
Possibly hydraulic brake booster and PS fluid cooler.
No idea about front brakes, my friend makes very cost/efficent BBK's using VW discs and turbo Saab calipers.

                      Rear:
                      325i dics setup, remanufactured.
Adjustable spring perches and "non barrel" spirngs.
DIY Camber&toe adjustments, using e34 M5 eccentric bolts.
                      Yellow Koni shocks.
                      Borbet a 9*16" et 15.

                      Interior:
Mtech1 steering wheel and shift knob.
BMW sport seats, 0304 ANTHRAZIT cloth(="scotch pattern").
Possibly epia based carputer and screen on center console, with a panel which can hide the screen.
6 button "OBC" = clock, date and thermometer.
BMW reverse cassette deck on original location, dummy, working player will be hidden.
Searching for premiun sound system speakers to rear shelf and to door triangle.
Orinal sun screen on rear shelf.

I'm quoite sure I forgot something, feel free to ask things if you have intrest, all comments and critisism wellcome.

EDIT: picture of my front strut:
