"new" taillights? Me thinks its time... *pic*

Well as many of you know i have the beloved DEPO tail lights. I've been doing a few searches and have noticed how "rare" these lights are... Im beggining to think perhaps people dont like them?

Why would anyone want to make their BMW look like a 91 Honda Accord with cheap tail lights?

Place light in front of tire.
Drive car forward.
Lights are fixed.

I dont hate them but i definatly dont think they suit my car and im more and more likeing smoked tails. Now i dont have enough money to go out and buy some rediculously overpriced lights on the net (again...)
so i think i will pull off a DIY over the easter break.

with like a shadow line breaking the top and bottom,,,

What do you guys think? Too dark? not dark enough? or should i just leave them be?

I think #2 is too dark... What about tinting the turn signals red, then a slight smoke over the reverse lights?

Early model tails are sexy as they are IMO. If you paint them, you risk messing them up (not that they are expensive) and you're just going to have to respray them every couple of weeks to keep them looking new...

I'll get some pictures tomorrow, getting to dark out now. I painted the black line in the middle of the lights first and then taped off the backup light and sprayed the rest with Dupli-Color metalcast red. I didn't even bother clearcoating the lights cause that is all that the metalcast paint is, a colored clear.

Pretty much, yeah. I don't like them, but if you do, then that's all that matters. People around here tend to get their panties all twisted when your car doesn't fit the approved modification methods.

Nah im definately going to change them soon. it pisses me off so much every time i walk up behind my car and they shine at me like a fuking disco ball.

And like i said, i dont have enough money to go and by startec's or MHW right now esp with shipping to aus. One day? sure.. that would be fuking sweet, just not for now.

I really like that all reds offer a different look without making the lights any less visable. And i really like the idea of having green bulbs so they flash orange/yellow. (does that really work?)
Im not sure about tinting the reverse light because it might not be visable enough when on. Dont know which combination i like.

James, why do you need backup lights?

Paint the Depos all red, then clearcoat them to protect them from UV.

Testors red, have a body shop clear them.

PIMP, plus no more discoballin'.
