Having a hard time deciding how to add power to my e30

I was all set on the m50 swap but just recently a local friend of mine got his 75 2002 turboed and I am now back to the drawing board.

Obviously if I turbo it won't be smog legal, and I am getting to a point where it doesn't matter as much anymore as it's not my daily. But, to be honest I am not a fan of turbo cars and their issues with limp modes, boost leaks etc.

How reliable is m10 with forced induction ? I have found a one owner m10 engine that's fairly clean under the valve cover, and am thinking about buying it to build on a side for turbo. How much boost can the m10 take safely or how much hp can it make on stock internals in the block and head ? Would it make any sense to upgrade any of the internals , or is it not required if I am looking at about 250whp ? Finally, can the m10 tranny take this much hp/tq ?

PM Otis (goes by Good and Tight) on E30 tech. He's the man with turbo M10's.

m10 240 transmission is good for around 200 ft-lbs of torque

if it has the forged crank, its probably good for 300 hp
