    1985 318i -- M10B18 represent!

Hey everyone! Another 318i-owning n00b here. I actually stumbled upon this website while searching for any news or rumors about the E30 M3 appearing in Forza 2 as downloadable content, but I've been wondering if there was an active E30 forum out there somewhere. BMWE30.net's forum is outdated and doesn't seem very active, and bimmerforums.com is just a mess.

I've been driving my 318i since 2004, and can't imagine giving it up anytime soon. It's beginning to show its age, what with all of the noises it makes, and it's had a few significant episodes -- I've replaced the alternator, master cylinder, and clutch diaphragm, and the electronic lock system is dead -- but it has almost never failed to get me where I need to go.

That said, I wish I had a garage and the money to give the car the restoration it deserves (like the eye-opening work done by tjts1). I've thought about just driving it until it gets too expensive to fix, and then taking out a loan for an E34 or early E39, but really, I can't imagine driving anything but an E30. :D

I just know someone's gonna tell me to do the bumper tuck. :p

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. I, too, love the Delphin Gray Metallic. :)

Streetspec iS -- I reckon I know quite a bit about BMWs, but I've actually never heard of euro chromes, unless you're just talking about Altezza-style taillights...

tjts 1 -- If I keep my foot out of it I can get up to 30mpg rather easily, driving around town. My bike can almost triple that, though.

hendrixvodu -- The only circumstance where I would willingly let the car go would be when it became utterly undrivable.

delphini -- Being a relatively poor college student, I'd like to maintain my 318i's current status as an economical and reliable mode of transport (ruling out turbocharging or other fun, interesting stuff :p ), but that doesn't mean I don't have fun with the car. I like to tear up the country roads outside of town whenever I can (my parents have a cabin in an area full of fun valley roads :D ), and I'd like to try an autocross event and/or track day at Road America sometime.

Right. Should've thought of that one.

The weight saving would be nice, but I'm not sure I want to spend money and do work just to lower the amount of protection my car would have in a low-speed crash/bump.
