    BMW E30 M52B28 Mtech I

Like you have problably noticed every E30 nut from Iceland have posted their cars here so I can't feel left out...

This car started as a project in october 2006. I was browsing through the icelandic beemer forum and found a quite crippled E30 pre facelift 320i.

The car had a quite bad accident and was heavily damaged at the front and back right side.

Normally this would have knocked me away from the car but in Iceland it isn't very often you come across good E30's, especially pre facelift ones.

This one particual was rust free, (exclude the crambled panels after the accident)

The reason I bought this car also was that I was going on a Eurotrip in may 2007. I had always wanted driving something that i built myself and had some kind of meaning for me.

    Allright,

In the beginning the car looked like this (shit your gonna think i'm crazy for doing this project)

Allright, so the damages on the car were quite alot.

Then I started ripping everything apart.

The old piece were the springs are attached.

    Quite damaged.. :eeek:

I ordered a new rear piece

This happened during christmas 2006. Then when all the stripping had finished we slowly started putting the new and used parts on the car.

    Front finished

    Then the back

Then in the middle of the process I was offered from Alpina (he's here on R3v) newly restored complete brakes for the car, drilled and slotted discs and new bushnings and more. The car didn't have discs at the back so this was great.

    Installing the brakes.

    Old

    New

So then soon the painting started.

    Finished with the painting

Then the installation of the parts began. Note, there was only a week until i left to Europe with the car when I started putting things back together,

Car was a little bit high here, I had put the cabrio springs at the back, yeah big mistake I know, put the mtech ones back and the car went a little lower, need to buy a new set soon.

The I installed a xenon system

And this is how the car looked like when i went with it to Europe, it was "finished". But of course i have a lot of things to do.

When the car went to Europe another stage of the project began.

In Denmark the car got a new motor.

    A M52b28 motor from a E36 328i
    gearbox
    ETA radiator
    3.64 LSD
    K&N airfilter

I also bought the remainings of the Mtech I kit that are missing for the car.

I drove the car 15.000 km through all Europe (Denmark, Germany, France, Holland, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium, Luxemburg, Norway)
and it ran great. Only thing that bugged me is that the 3.64 is not good on autobahn.

So when i got back home i started modifying a little more. Installed a E36 steering rack and also a hydraulic steering system (The car didn't have that before).

I bought Recaro Winkelhock chairs (they are being shipping now)

So this is the short version of the project. I have over 2000 photos and other stuff from it but its a bit long for me to post everything. I had a much more specific thread on the icelandic forum. Posting almost daily.

But this is the situation at the moment, the car will go to winter hybernation soon and my other toy will come from it's sleep...

    Allright, that's all 8)

Either the pics arent loading, or Firefox is losing this battle.

The pictures of the jeep are from another server then the others.

The E30 pics are hosted on my server, it's quite laggy at the moment i assume.

              Hopefully it will come around.

People down here are ALWAYS drooling over FJ-80s and 100s that are built up for your type of wheeling, looks like your rig is just a smaller version of it!

You like that, eh? I've got about 2 inches more wheel gap all around.

This is a Suzuki Jimny, and yes it has got a solid axle at the front. Its running on 35" tires and with very low gearing. It's very light, aroung 1100-1200 kg which is very small for a jeep with these tires and modifications.

Superb E30 restoration! How much did all of that cost (if you don't have a prob with disclosing the grand total in costs)

Ya Suzuki Jimny. The re-incarnated popular Suzuki Samurai

I'm not quite sure about the total cost of the car. But the repair and painting was very cheap. I was working at a workshop and many people helped me during the process.

The motor, tranny, and a bunch of other stuff i bought in Europe and had installed is about 7 - 8.000 $ (I think i'm calculating this correctly)

Also in the process of rebuilding the car I bought a lot of new stuff, lights, screws, buttons, plastic interior stuff and such other.

The money wasn't so much in the project, but this took a lot of time. And I don't want to know how much that is worth...

Oh ok. Looks like money well spent to me. As you now have a car that is ALSO cosmetically intact under the panels
