Kodiak inners and outers actually. He bought them for 1200. I hate him.

Drool. There's a guy around the corner from my house with a set of RM's on a MkII GTi. I'm going to talk to him one of these days and see if they're for sale. He's not a big VW tuner, he bought the car with them on it. He lives across the street from my mom, I guess he has some new Golf or whatever every few months that he just cleans up and resells, but he's had this one for a while.Comment

Very nice!!! So question:
- So, you are out there with other cars - what are the goods/bads of an e30 as a drift rat? Stiffness? Power? Or is it all about the right gearing and some hard tires? I'd love to here more about what you are learning as you get deeper and deeper into it.
I liked the video, you should do an incar, and a trackside camera. THAT would be much more interesting...Please tell me TJ didn't shoot that video - it looks like ass...but at least it's better then a static still pic.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?Comment

Nah that was my buddy from work with his point and shoot camera. Any footage is better than no footage ;) TJ does photography, which is why my sig rocks. :DI liked the video, you should do an incar, and a trackside camera. Alright, *takes a breath*Very nice!!! So question:

The e30 is still something I hold as one of the greatest learning cars ever when it comes to drifting. When it comes to "ease" of drifting, nothing is easier than a Nissan 240sx. But the e30's semi-trailing arm rear suspension is a gem, making oversteer really easy, so the rear end is always happy.
The other end of this double edged sword though is that the semi-trailing arms change all their camber/toe settings under load, so it can be a bit unpredictable once you are in a drift. Especially when transitioning from one drift to the other, you'll be required to be very precise on your steering/throttle inputs to pull it off.
Power is more than adequate with a stock M20. I recently took a chance to drive etxxz's car, which was a stock M20 with GCs, Konis, and a few bushings. I beyond loved it. On a non-competitive, just for fun basis, that car is a BLAST! So smooth and predictable, especially once you stiffen up the rear end. My only gripe (and we both agreed on that) was the fact that he was using a 4.10lsd, which really kills the gearing, making it too short and not letting you have that many revs to play around with. With a 3.73 you should be straight.
As for tires. People usually dont believe when I mention I run cheap tires, even in the front. There are pros and cons to that as well, but I could write an essay on why. But for the rear, you'll be wasting a lot of those. My suggestion is to just pick up used tires (if you're on stock power) off a junkyard or a tire shop and just go out using them for fun. The low grip usually offered by a used all season tire makes for easy drifting, and requires a lot of finesse (great practice) with throttle and steering in order to not spin.
Essentially, if I were to open a drifting school, I would get a fleet of e30s. Someone will learn much faster, and have much more fun, than sliding a Nissan 240sx. The 240sx is just so easy to build, and so easy to drift, it's almost as if there's a button for it. (Kinda like the Staples "easy button"). It's great and highly competitive for it, but it doesnt offer the plain fun experience that the e30 does. Every 240sx driver that has jumped on my car (even when I had the black stock e30 on shocks and springs) has admitted that these cars are a blast.
I <3 my e30. :)Last edited by Erick; 10-17-2007, 05:44 AM.Erick Mahle | FullOpp Drift | YouTube

Although I understand why it is against all regulations, I still feel a lot more input from driving barefoot. I have driving shoes and yet still, at every event, I feel more response and comfort from driving barefoot. IT is obviously unsafe in the case of a serious accident.Erick Mahle | FullOpp Drift | YouTube
