My dad picked himself up a e28

My dad finally got a beater that is half decent. It's a 1986 528e. He got it for $500 and it came with a 1985 535i parts car. The e needs a few things like a heater core and some other small stuff. But over all for $500 it's not that bad of car even if it is a automatic. I gave it a quick bath and polish. He didn't know if he wanted it or not till he asked me what i thought. I said if he doesn't get it, i'll buy it and drive it this winter for a beater.

Looks pretty clean for a 500 dollar e28 for SURE.

The paint is pretty good, just needs the roof and trunk lid buffed. The hood needs repainted. The body is fairly solid. Has rust on the rear valance and a small spot in the front wheel well. I drove it down the road and back, it was slow but not as slow as i thought it would be. If he put a 3.25 gear in it, it would be better (has a 2.93lsd in it now). He hated the bumpers so i tucked the front but the back the shocks was filled with foam?? and i couldn't push it in. Unlike the front that the shocks was filled with oil.

Congrats on the car! They are really robust cars and can run forever if maintained.

              A few simple things
              - If there is a shimmy at around 45-50mph, its probably the control arm bushings
              - The brake rotors also tend to warp easily
              - Change the timing belt if it hasn't been done recently (along with the water pump and thermostat, duh)

Definitley join mye28, they are a very very knowledgable bunch of enthusiasts and you can find just about anything in the archives there.

              Good Luck.

                  $500 is not bad at all....I sold a non-running e28 recently for $450.

I thought it was a good deal too. Cause the parts car had a decent e30 black leather sport int. laying in it, along with a posi rear for a e30 in the trunk and my dad said i can have the m30 that's in it too. :D

I bought my car as a winter beater, now its staying in the garage and I'm driving my GTI in the snow. Unless I could find something like that. nice find.

Nice car. I paid $200 for my wife's 88, but the paint isn't nearly that nice and it didn't come with a parts car. Plus you get a m30 out of the deal! Nice...

the back bumper you HAVE to back it up into a wall. i know people say that with e30s but you dont have to with them, but e28s its a must. i had to on my 88 535i. i kicked the hell out of it and gave up.
