My dad finally got a beater that is half decent. It's a 1986 528e. He got it for $500 and it came with a 1985 535i parts car. The e needs a few things like a heater core and some other small stuff. But over all for $500 it's not that bad of car even if it is a automatic. I gave it a quick bath and polish. He didn't know if he wanted it or not till he asked me what i thought. I said if he doesn't get it, i'll buy it and drive it this winter for a beater.

The paint is pretty good, just needs the roof and trunk lid buffed. The hood needs repainted. The body is fairly solid. Has rust on the rear valance and a small spot in the front wheel well. I drove it down the road and back, it was slow but not as slow as i thought it would be. If he put a 3.25 gear in it, it would be better (has a 2.93lsd in it now). He hated the bumpers so i tucked the front but the back the shocks was filled with foam?? and i couldn't push it in. Unlike the front that the shocks was filled with oil.

Congrats on the car! They are really robust cars and can run forever if maintained.
A few simple things
- If there is a shimmy at around 45-50mph, its probably the control arm bushings
- The brake rotors also tend to warp easily
- Change the timing belt if it hasn't been done recently (along with the water pump and thermostat, duh)
Definitley join mye28, they are a very very knowledgable bunch of enthusiasts and you can find just about anything in the archives there.
Good Luck.
