    Issues

Yeah, it has a few issues.

The oil was sludge, so I drove it out to Oil Can Henry's yesterday to have the oil, automatic transmission fluid, and coolant replaced. (I had to stop at NAPA to buy the odd oil and air filters because Oil Can Henry's doesn't stock these items for this particular car.) I figured if the oil was sludge, the prior owner had neglected the car for a while.

On the way out, I first smelled then saw smoke billowing out of the left front air vent. So I opened the driver's window and drove faster! Yeah, I know, but I have insurance, and it would be kind of cool to drive down the road with the car on fire.

The gauge cluster is also shot. Only the tach, the fuel gauge, and a couple of idiot lights work.

But, hey, the car looks good! And I drove it today with no electrical fires.

(However, it does not look as good as Cam's old E28. Now that was a nice car.)

it's bigger than you realize... it's just not organized like these guys are

...oh, and just for good measure, this pic gets it on the same page for the 3rd time:

Yeah, I'm in LO, too. Took a gamble on an iX, flew to Boise, bought it, and drove home.

    What a Small World!

    Wow! What a small world!

I got the 533i for my youngest son. He is not yet old enough to drive, but will be soon. Plus, we can always use an extra car for when my older sons return from school or the army.

How do you like the 325i?

Although I enjoy driving the E28 because of the torque, I really much prefer my the way my E30 iX handles. E30s are just so right.

Yeah, old cars can be cool and fun. For ten years, I drove nothing but new cars every few years. They are nice when they are new, but they soon become old and used, and it is very expensive to keep up that cycle.

I suppose repairs can raise the overall cost of owning an older used car, but it probably still beats spending $5,000 a year on lease payments for a car you don't own.
+1 , add to that over mileage fees.... ouch.
