I believe that car is an M-Tech, not Mtech II. Mtech II only came in white with white leather seats and was an appearance package only. The MTech was a very rare car, and yours even more rare because of the color. Check out www.e30ic.com for the details.

Congrats on an absolutely beautiful car!

Ive had the car for about a year now, but have owned e30s, e28s, e36s, e34s, e32s, and e46s for about 10 years now.

Ive looked at e30ic before. I just wish there was a registry of the people who own these cars so I could find out how many are left in the country. I know mine only had 18 with the manual trans, but Im not sure how many have survived over the years.

His car is in fact, an original M Technic ll. BMW built the model in 91 (178 cars, 3 colors) & 92 (1000+ cars white & several blacks), all 1178+ cars were cabrio's. There is quite a difference in features (and sticker price) on the 91 vs. the 92. As an example, the 91 had a FULL leather interior, including door cards, door pulls, console & glove box, came only in black leather with the Evo ll cloth inserts (not offered on the 92's). The 91 had all the bells & whistles where the 92 was fewer features & and larger production numbers. The BMW production code on 91's was "#771 M Technic Luxusausstattung" - 92's were "#770 M Technic weia/schwarz".

Their are a lot of fakes out there where people have slapped the body kit on a cab & call it an M Tec. Before you pay a premium price for what you think is an M Tec, run the VIN in BMW's data base, code # 770 or 771 will appear & it is the ONLY way you can insure authenticity. Search this board "Vin", Aaron, a true cabrio maniac, provides this service.

Both years are referred too as M-Tech ll. The M Technic l kit was available only as a euro car in 86-87 on the coupe (disclaimer -M technic l info is not documented & could be different). Their is not a lot of information on the M Technic ll cars - and more mis-information than correct stats. While both cars are desirable because of limited production, the 91 is the hardest to find & commands a higher price than the 92 because of rarity.

You are correct, www.e30ic.com has much information on cabrios & very detailed info on the M tech ll. Kieth has done an excellent & time consuming job on compiling all these stats & updates this web site with new documented info as he uncovers it. On his site, the words M technic are used referring too the 91 & 92 cars. M technic ll is a term that is used on other boards to differentiate between the 80's (M Tech l) & 90's E30's ( M Tech ll). BMW called them all "M technic".

Very true. they only built them for 1 month too. 04 of 91. I met the original owner of the car a couple months ago....kind of a funny story actually.... I was talking with my friend at the local BMW club meet and he said he was talking to his friend from California, somehow they got on the topic of m-tech convertibles. Then it dawned on him, his friend from cali had a silver m-tech with a manual in it. So they called me and asked for the VIN... Sure enough it was the same one. So he flew out here (MN) to hang out with us for a couple days and see the car. He was very happy to see it was just how he sold it. I let him drive it and he was very very happy about that. He regrets ever selling the car and wants to find another one.

The one thing that I would like to do for it is get a nice exhaust system, maybe a superprint or dinan. But it has to look factory.

                                very nice car,
but come on, these are 1991-1992 BMW 3 series. that text is such a joke!!! demands higher prices???hahaha production numbers.!!! someone is trying to compare these cars to the likes of 40+y/o Hemi cudas and such.

M tech II is refering to the facelift, and M tech I is refering to the old model, and that text is wrong, they were avail as verts here too.

once again, I love your car!
