    Hello from Germany :D

    Hi,

    I'm Robert, I come from Germany. Today I've joined your awesome E30 forum! ;) I've seen a lot of great E30's here. 8)

    I have bought a '89 318i with M40 engine. I think this engine isn't so known in the U.S. It is nearly the smallest engine BMW in the european E30 with 113 HP. , but nevertheless you get "the pleasure to drive" or "Aus Freude am Fahren!"

    Some informations about my car.

    1989 BMW 318i, 2-doors, Exterior Cirrusblau-Metallic, Interior in Indigo (blue)

    My car got in Munich the follwing extras:
    1. 219A sport steering wheel
    2. 311 electric outside mirror
    3. 320A without nameplate on the trunk
    4. 350 colour glazing
    5. 400A mech. sunroof
    At the moment I rebuilt the car, so that I can ride it this summer.

    Best Regards,
    Bourne

          wow, that is one stripped down car. talk about zero options. the electric mirrors as well as the sunroof were standard equipment, as well as the no nameplate was a cost free option. cool colors, and cirrus is very rare here in germany.

          anyway, it sure is a very lightweight e30 i imagine.
          where in deutschland are you?

                  M40=tick tick tick

                  The outside looks really good. It's pretty rare to see a E30 in Germany without visable rust. The slower M40 models tend to be in nicer condition. It probably belonged to some Oma that rarely took it on the autobahn.

                  It's pretty bad when rear speakers are an option. I guess it was the LTW option.

                  Tons of potential.

                        Hi @ all,

                        Vielen Dank! :)

                        I come from a village near Berlin. In Berlin, I bought the car from the 6nd owner last year, but it's really, really well-kept.
                        My preference was more to get a rust-free chassis with sunroof instead a lot of extras.

                        The electric rear mirror (190.- DM* extra) and the sunroof (1330.- DM*) weren't standart in Germany, you had to pay for it extra in 1989, but at last you are right, zero options ;) The 318i weights only 1065kg :D, so it's drives very well.

                        I'm not sure what I’ll do with the engine … I think I'll rebuild it by Ingo Köth. He is very popular in the German BMW scene, especially by the M40 owners, because he rebuild the M40 engines in highest stages with E36 (M43) engine technology. The M40 camshaft tends to shrink and the valves begin to tick. It’s a disgusting noise … like a diesel. He use the M43 camshaft, which is based on newer technology. I know E30 with his M40 engines with more than 250.000 miles.

                        Nevertheless, I would like to rebuilt a 2,5 liter engine, but it’s very hard to find an engine, which isn’t run down. Most of them were ran to the ground. The 316i/318i (not the 318iS M42) are very unpopular here, but the engines are mostly in better conditions.

                        I got from my pre-owner nearly everything to the car; the original bill from BMW, different bills of repairs and a full service history which prove the 90.099 original miles.

                        I love the car.

                        I'm sorry that I can't reply immediatley, because of time shift

                        Bourne

                        BTW: I got the complete BMW Soundsystem for my E30.

                        * elect. mirror 190 DM ~ 118 $, sunroof 1330 DM ~ 982 $
