    The Bimmer and the Strobist

Had a play with some strobes (small battery powered flashes) the other night, went down to the local shopping center carpark, found myself a nice deserted level and had a play for an hour or so. Reading strobist.com gets addictive! Should have played with more angles, and a couple of times I kept wishing I'd ordered a third light...

Very little PP went into these, the aim is to get it right in the camera!

You definitely need another strobe to light the front of the car in 1 and 2. Your paint color is working against you in such a low-light environment.

#2 could have been better if you took that strobe from behind and put in on the front of the car. If you were trying to show off the seats and you had three strobes, I would say on strobe on either side of the car and one inside the car.

Also, is your WB off or is that strobe really blue?

your right about needing the extra light, but I've just got to work with what i've got for the time being :)

The light in 2 was for backlighting the car, but too much of it seems to have leaked into the car itself. The idea wasnt to show off the seats/interior, its just turned out that way! Its gelled blue, in the setup shot you can see both of the stobe's colours.

              Sweet looking car!

Since you don't have many lights (like me), I would suggest taking multiple exposures ansd piecing them together in ps or take a shot with your strobes at this exposure to get a reading and increase by like 3-4 stops (not including reciprocity failure).

yeah i've got another shot from this shoot that's got a mix of strobe locations. I think my monitor at home migth be a bit bright, everyone seems to be calling the shot as too dark.

In the mean time until i scrape the cash up for more lights, i'll play around with using white styro to fill.

love the shots, both my parents are professionals, Peter Blakely's Website, my dad is a photo journalist, for any photo buffs.

Nice pictures though. Love the m42, not a huge fan but yours looks tight.
