You from Portugal? I was just there in December. Stayed in Lisboa, drove up to Oporto (stopping in Obidos, Evora and Tomar) then came back down to Albuferia (taking day trips to the End of the World...Sagres). It was an awesome experience.

Thanks everyone. This little project was a lot of fun. It was nice to play with the e30 for a while.

Okay...I have had a few inquires about the parts I used to get this done.

I purchased a set of Yakima RailRider 2 mounts. They are originally designed for a Jeep's roof rails. In addition to the mounts, you need the correct thread bolts for the hard top (25mm long...I think), and any associated Yakima parts that you want for the top.

First you have to modify the bases. The red portion of the mount has the be removed (very carefully).

Then you need to drill new holes on the outside (to match the spacing of the hard top)...95mm center to center (again...I think). Be careful because there is not a lot of material to spare. Start small and finesse the hole to the correct size. This is how it should look.

The "groove" of the mount has to be slightly shaved to allow for the bolt heads to fit. Take a little material off at a time. The more you leave on there, the better.

        Here are some additional pictures.

Now you are ready to go. I have safely and securely transported two road bikes on here. It is very sturdy!

        Thanks

        Aaron

Thanks man. New ride to me. I picked it up used and it has gotten very addicting. Sacramento has an extremely nice trail along the American River. I even got my fiance into riding (she picked up a Felt bike).
