    M-Tech 1 conversion complete!

Finally got the M-Technic 1 rear apron back from being painted on Saturday and had some time to install it yesterday morning before driving up to polo in Mokuleia. While I was up there, I saw a gorgeous old Mercedes convertible — verrrry old school and in almost immaculate condition. Oh, and I threw in an obligatory polo action shot —bigs bucks to play but pretty cheap as a spectator sport.

          Thanks, guys.

Jean: Re your question, I got the rear apron brand new from the dealer (a little over $400 with the BMWCCA/long-time customer.friends with the parts guys discount). The front -- and I'm assuming you're talking about the M-Technic 1 spoiler — I picked up used for about $200 from a guy in the UK on ebay.uk. My ex-girlfriend is a flight attendant and, after winning the ebay auction, I talked her into our taking a trip there. Turned out I had a friend who lived on the southern coast of England who offered to put us up. Nice — dirt cheap airfare and free accomodations, right? That was the good news; the bad news was that the seller lived waaaay up north, actually about 20 miles south of Scotland. So I probably spent a couple hundred bucks on petrol in my little Fiat rental car just to pick it up! Well worth the drive, though -- the English countryside is breathtaking.

James: Thanks for the stroke. Let me respond in kind: I just checked out your VERY extensive writeup on all the work you put into that car this morning before work. I'm way beyond impressed, both with how meticulous you were over what had to be the better part of a year and with the finished product. Also, fporro, who turned me on to this site, sent me a couple of pics of your car while I was waiting to get it back from the paint shop. Gave me a lofty target to shoot for, one I doubt I could ever achieve. Really fine work on your part.

Probably not — seems a bit flashy on a car driven by someone approaching his late 40s. Ten, even five years ago? Yeah, I'd probably be all over it. ;-)

Damn James...yet another while M-tech 1. Hopefully this one won't suffer the same fate as mine.

Nice work bro...looking good. May I ask what side skirts those are? Looks like m-tech 1 with a little custom shaping/rounding?

Your car turned out beautiful. I like your choice of the subtle iS rear spoiler, too. One of the classiest E30s I've ever seen.

Thanks to all for the kind words.

Re the side skirts, they're BBS and were on the car when I bought it about 15 years ago. The replicate the look of the M-Tech 1 items so well I decided I could go without the real thing.

Re stickers, I've already got the small one on the front spoiler; haven't gotten around to slapping the larger one on the rear yet.

If you want the real skirts, Andy is selling his...these are even the non-flared skirts, which I believe are even harder to find. I bet you could sell those BBS skirts for a pretty penny, and then you'd have a complete kit ;)
