I was going to put all of this text before my pics, but I assume few of you will read it, so I'm putting the pics first. ;)
I'm sure a few of you cought my latest thread about my e28's suspension. If not, here's the link.
I'll start with my weekend story. For once, it's one without pics (I know, you're crushed. :o).
My weekend started with an unexpected Friday. My suspension showed up, yet my tracking info said it hadn't shipped yet. It was an excellent surprise; just in time for Import Alliance on Saturday.
First things first, I called Treehouse Racing to see if Jon could squeeze me in. I needed him to cut and shorten my strut housings and weld on my new perches. It's something I'd have done had I had a welder and the time, but IA was getting close.
Jon said he could get me in and out before the end of the day, so I had to get some strut housings to take to him... I attacked the parts car in the middle of a thunder storm. Soaking wet, pretty cold, and in a rush, I got it done and rushed to Treehouse. Jon got me done and I was off to Eriks.
I get to Erik's (Bimmerteck, AKA the owner of the garage my e36 is sitting in), pull my car in the garage, and get started. Things couldn't have gone worse, but I finally got all the suspenion bits on and where I wanted them... but of course, the one of the struts I pulled off the parts car had a FUBAR'd wheel bearing... nowhere near safe to drive on.
It's 1:00am, and Erick and I have started the assault.
By 4:00am, we've made no progress, broken two 1/2" drive Snap-On ratchets, and picked the car up with a super long breaker-bar before the damn collar nut budged. What did we do?
We went to Waffle House to discuss our plan of attack. We hit up lowes and Home Depot (they open at 6:00am if you ever need anything from them) in hopes of finding a 1" drive impact wrench.. you know, the ones they use to install light poles into the ground .
No luck at either of those two, so we get back to the house around 7:30, take a power nap and head back out at 9:00. We went to an equipment rental place and rented an industrial reverse impact hammer, and finally got the damn thing off... of course, we didn't have time to finish, or we'd miss the show, so we went to O'reiley's to order a bearing and went to the show.
Import Alliance 2008
We left, came hit up O'reileys to pick up my wheel bearing, and went home and installed it. Done. Woohoo. Only 24 hours later.
Anyways, the rest of the weekend was just hanging out, and my good friend Matt and I decided to do a proper shoot of the newly finished car.
If you decide not to read the other thread, note these:
-The car has 8" springs on it, and is on full-low. I'll be swapping them out for 6" springs so I can go a bit lower, and run the collars up a bit.
-The exhaust is hanging low, so I'm going to likely have to cut it up and get it sitting higher, unless I can make some new hangers to get it higher.. only then can I go lower. Right now it's about 1/2" off the ground and I've had it tap the ground a few times, and it clips the reflectors on the highway
Anyways, hope you enjoyed the pics.
