    I has new glass

I got a new Rebel Xti a couple of weeks ago, and just realized last night that I needed to get in touch with with my masculine side, and stop taking pictures of sunsets and daisies. So, I took my car to the nearest location with decent light to snap some shots. I haven't really changed anything on it (except going back to weaves, temporarily) but I just thought I'd share.

Any recommendations on lenses? It's pretty overwhelming to choose one right now.

Nice pictures, what are your exposure times on these? Canon 50mm F1.8, and Canon 70-200MM F2.8 L series with IS. Two of the best lenses Canon makes.

The new 18-55mm kit lens with IS really isn't all that bad. It should do 80% of what you need it to do. The f/1.8 50mm is nice too, and it's only like $70. My favorite lens in my bag currently is the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6. It's a bit more expensive at around $450, but the wide angle is sooooo much fun.

            Other lenses worth considering:
-EF-S 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS. A great walk-around lens with more range and better IQ than the kit lens. Subject to some barrel distortion and CA at the wide end. About $500 new
-EF 70-200L f/4 IS. Excellent zoom with IS and superior IQ, but a bit spendy at around $1000 new
-EF 17-40L f/4. A first 'L' lens for many shooters. Very good IQ, constant aperture and relatively inexpensive for an 'L' lens
-EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS. One of the best lenses Canon makes, why it isn't an 'L' I dont know. Super fast f/2.8, excellent IQ and IS is a bonus. Great for low-light and portraits. Around $850 new

                Thanks guys,

Most of the shots were made in shutter priority mode, and were left open about 15" since the light was low by the time I actually got there.

Those prices on lenses are pretty high. I think for now I'm going to focus on getting the f1.8 50mm just to get a little low-light versatility. Plus, it's pretty cheap, and I could use the extra money for new wheels :).

I assumed you were shooting around 15-20sec shutter times. Looks really good! Keep working at it.

                    My current setup :)

Really nice shots. How did you get your citylights so bright BTW?

It is the length the shudder is open. That is one a couple light sources available in these low light, long exposure shots. The city lights are effectively 'burned' into the image.

Wow, sick setup man. Do you have a website?

James: The exhaust has always been a little off. I need to check if I can adjust the bracket or something.

Motorsports_3: I set the shutter speed at 15" so I could gather as much light as possible without washing the spotlights out too much.

Working on the website. Shoot me a PM and I can show you some of my work :)

Did really good thought for the XTi w/ Kit lens. Get the battery grip and Nifty Fifty and start from there!

Nice pics. I've had my xti for a bit myself and love it. I just have a couple lenses. 28-80 macro, and 75-300 1.4 5/6. I do have a slew of filters to dick with though.
