I would never take any shred of advice from anyone who uses an SAFC. I'm sure your tuner knows a few things but in no way shape or form is a CA18 better than an SR20- nor should a piggyback/Doorstop ever be put on any automobile... IMO nobody who uses an SAFC on their own car should be able to call themselves a "Tuner"
I have a few SR20s apart in Marcs garage right now... come look at the SR equivalent of whatever part you've been told is "stronger" on the CA's...
Internally stock SR20, except for a set of drop-in cams:
The sil-eighty was a lot of fun until I broke it. New engine under construction.
E-rich, I hope I can make it to the next drift day, with Christina maybe. We'll continue the debate!

Anything is lighter than an iron block inline-6. LS series pushrod V8s' are badass and light but cost prohibitive as hell. I would bet a lot of money that an LS1 would be significantly lighter than any M20 setup. They also have the advantage of being shorter and so that less-weight-in-the-first-place sits further towards the firewall leading to even better weight distribution. You get that same advantage with small 4cyl engines of course. You can put any standalone on any car with enough work, but the Autronic would be just as easy as any other flying-lead standalone install.

ok ya that dyno graph is great..but it doesn't make peak power until almost 4 grand. no thanks. have you ever played with a CA18? or just going off your sr knowledge. the only reason hes using a SAFC is because he couldn't get a hold of a Power fc. which he now has one that we will be using on my setup. The CA thats going in my car makes 250 wheel by 3200-3300 and stays at the same power all the way till redline. i only expect more power with a power fc. btw..when i say tuner im speaking of doug of UPGARAGE. ive seen a lot of ghis setups for his cars and customers and i have more than enough faith in him. plus...a CA clip is 1500...SR 2300 or more...im a fucking e30 guy...im not bill gates!Last edited by E-rich; 08-21-2008, 06:17 PM.

ALSO note that sr20 dyno sheetis on a dyno jet which means it really only makes..oh 300 on a real dyno such as a mustang dyno(up garage's) or Macy's dyno dynamics.

Primo doesn't seem to have any problems drifting with the exact same turbo but stock cams and his setup put down about 315hp on a "Real" dyno IIRC (which I very well might not). I agree with you 100% about real dyno by the way. For comparisons sake, using the corrections factor from the GT-R's #'s on Macy's Dyno Dynamics and the run at MPS's the above car would put down about 310 whp on the DD. The glaring holes in the setup as shown on the dyno chart posted: Running a piece of sh*t ROM tune ECU instead of a PowerFC, boost controller not set up correctly (notice the big dip at 4200-4500), and aftermarket camshafts with stock cam gears (needs overlap dialed out). Even with all the ricer excuses, I have never had a problem powerband wise. With the SR trans' gear ratios, a solid 4000rpm powerband from 3.5k-7.5k is just as good IMO as a 2500 to 6500rpm rev range...
All those problems will be fixed with the engine Im building for Marc as its getting a Power FC that I'll tune myself, an Innovate WBO2, and the cheapest adjustable cam gears I can findLast edited by SamuraiSam; 08-21-2008, 06:44 PM.Comment

Budget is a very valid reason to pick the motor you go with - Look at me, I drive a Geo goddamn Metro, hah! I've read alot of stuff that Mark from Mazworks has said - I'd say Mazworx is the best, if not one of the top 2 or 3 SR20 specialists in the country. They have done extensive development with CA's and SR's. Mark says unquestionably that the SR20's head design both high port and low port is superior. I've only personally worked on one CA18 in a '89 S13 but many S13 and S14 SR20'sComment

It does when one of the engines we're discussing is going into E-Rich's car! Dammit!

Ive driven both. I think they should stay in a nissan. But my personal preference for parts and ease of modding is a sr. Congrats though car looks mean.Comment
